We are going to have to agree to disagree to this subject.

I use the belly band as a training tool, just as people us a crate as a training tool.

If it isn't obvious to you already that strapping a dog's genitals up so that it can't pee is abuse, So he can't pee in the house. He is NOT prevented to pee outside ever. The dog isn't in any pain because of the belly band, it is preventing him from peeing in the house. Babies and Toddlers wear di...

Please not the belly-band. That IS abuse. I'd like to know how using a belly-band is abuse. The dog we adopted a few months ago was marking everywhere in the house. I have been and will continue to use a belly band until he quits marking. He does not have a potty training issue, it is a marking iss...

Almost 2 months Update!

I'm happy to report that our adopted Boston Terrier is doing good! :D We've had him almost 2 months now. I found out more information about him and he is older than I originally thought. He's about 8 or 9 years old instead of 4. I misunderstood when I picked him up. The first 4 years of his life was...

Jttb - the cocker spaniels I think would if shut out of the house with nothing to do, find that repetative behaviour very rewarding. It has the right elements of 'looping' behaviour that you see in animals displaying stereotypies, so when i say 'they are well on their way' i mean if you did shut th...

Okay jttb Smile and for you I had to watch it four more times as I don't do shorthand - but you are right, because this needs explaining, so thank you for asking.
Thank you Nettle for your post. I did see some things, but wanted to hear what other see. :)

I indeed have a problem - I didn't laugh at the last set of pictures - so many of the dogs shown are in pain or frightened or at risk of injury, Nettle, Can you please explain in which clips of the video you seen dogs in pain or frightened? The last one - well it offers a good exercise in reading d...

Until I read the responses to this post, I did not know it was a bad idea to raise siblings together. 3 years ago, my husband and I adopted 2 Fox Terrier/Jack Russell siblings. We still have them and they are doing great. They both are well behaved and obedient. They have 2 very different personalit...

He was not neutered when I got him, but he is now. :D When we catch him starting to mark, I clap my hands and firmly tell him no. Now he tries to sneak and do it, especially if he thinks we aren't in the room with him. We now close all our bedroom and bathroom doors so we can see him at all times. H...

Thanks for your reply. I am potty training him as I would a puppy. He knows to go outside to potty, that's not where I am having problems. The problem is him "marking" on everything in the house and that is why he has a diaper on. He lifts his leg and pees a few drops on everything...the c...

Housetraining an Older Dog

2 weeks ago, we adopted a 4 year old Boston Terrier (our 4th BT ). He is not completely potty trained and likes to mark everything in the house. He wears a diaper so that he doesn't ruin everything. He is on a regular eating and taking out to potty schedule and doing very well. My question is this: ...
