Labs - and why we love them anyway! : )
I ran across a thread in the training forum with several other people with lab puppies. Thought we might commiserate on this board and hear from all the other lab owners! I'm mom to Zeke. He is a 7 month old yellow lab. He's HUGE! (70 pounds), he's crazy (or normal for a lab), and a big loveable lug...

Re: Help with Labrador Puppy
Hi you guys! Boy, it's nice to see a good group of us in the same situation. I have a 7 month old yellow lab named Zeke. He's over 70 lbs now and hard to handle. The no-pull harness (or easy walk) was a life saver for us. I was at the point where I could not physically hold on to him if he decided t...

Peeing when excited
Hi Everyone! Just looking for some input on this. I'm assuming it's just part of the puppy stage we are in. Zeke is about 7 months old. Hasn't been neutered yet (will next month). I am just curious about the fact that he pees when he gets excited. Is this something that comes with the "teenage ...

Bacon scented bubbles
Hi everyone! I saw an IMOTD episode with 2 labs recently. Victoria introduced Bacon scented bubbles to provide some exercise and stimulation for the dogs since they couldn't be walked much. Well, it's raining and cold here, and will be pouring down rain for the next week. I thought the bacon scented...

Re: New puppy need help!
I hate to see that you are "feeling stupid". Look at it this way - there are millions of people in this world who fall in love with a sweet little puppy, and then find themselves in your situation where they can't handle the dog. Too many of those people dump the dog. You, on the other han...

Re: New puppy need help!
I do really feel for you. Especially since you all dearly wanted a puppy. But, I do feel it would be best for you all if you found another home for this puppy. I have a 6 year old son, 2 year old daughter, and 6 month old lab puppy. We are fortunate enough to have a basement and fenced backyard for ...

Re: Help I'm Lost and so Confused
HA! Nettle, don't even get me started on that subject! Happens all the time in my house and hubby wonders why our son won't go to sleep. One day during our rough time with Zeke, I caught hubby playing rough with Zeke. I explained that, since we were having issues with Zeke playing agres...

Re: Help I'm Lost and so Confused
Hi There! First, you have my utmost sympathy. We've just been through this. Zeke is almost 6 months old now. We had many times where I didn't know if we'd get through the nipping and mouthing. I was bleeding, scratched and badly bruised. And my kids were not allowed near him. To give you some perspe...

Hi there! I just started using the 2 ball trick with my 5 month old lab this past week (after seeing it on one of the shows). It really helped. He was doing the same stuff you mentioned. Admittedly, he still wants to jump when I hold up ball number 2. But, I can also see him trying to control himself.

I know it's not exactly the same, but my GR mix once growled and snapped at a neighbors boy and on another occassion, growled at my nephew. Well, my family got all in an uproar about how we couldn't have this dog near my son (newborn at the time). Now that I'm reading all this while trying to raise ...

eFence
I am wondering if you mean electric (above ground), or invisible (in ground with collar). My neighbor has an invisible fence in their yard. They have a 3 year old lab and he is a big boy. They had to crank up the power on the inv fence to the point that the poor boy has almost no room left in the ya...

Thanks Everyone!
Thanks to Victoria's show and all the information on these boards, we have come a long way with Zeke. He is now 16 weeks old. About 3 weeks ago, I seriously didn't think we'd be able to keep him. I was bleeding and bruised from sharp puppy teeth and mouthing. He seems like a totally different dog no...

Hi Noobs, You posted while I was typing my other response. That plan sounds good. I can put some distance between us and the kids. My gut feeling was that it wasn't working very well for him to be in the midst of that scene. I was trying for socialization, but maybe he's just a bit young for being i...
