Re: Tear stains
poodles and bichons seem to have problems with tear staining. We have recommended the use of an antioxident product called select, the vast majority of dogs we have recommended this to have stopped staining. NOW, please note, the fur that is already stained, will remain stained until it is groomed o...

full moon effects on canine behavior
I found this sort of interesting. Makes me wonder if it is the pet or the owner that is being effected  .MASON CITY — Have you ever notice that your dog paces more and seems restless on the nights leading up to or following a full moon? There are dog owners, and even some veterinarians, who rep...

Re: Diarrhea in Pups
Your dog may just need a grain free product. The worth of dog food can only be measured by whether or not your dog can utilize it. I know many dogs who do wonderfully well on "Ol Roy" Others swear by the organics that I absolutely cannot feed to one of my dogs. Each dog is t...

yes, it is true, the same dosage, "one size fits all" Also, since you brought up the issue of some dogs not being immune to a disease, I can tell you NO vaccine is 100%, not no how, not no way. They are certainly higly reliable, but the possibility still exists. I also have concerns ...

Re: Vaccinations
I think I may be able to help you, years ago, the vaccines used were made with a killed virus. They did only last about a year. Now we are using a modified live vaccine, which is superior in every way to the killed, which is why most of the immunology specialist are now saying vaccinate every 3-5 ye...

Re: Anyone else given their dogs jabs themselves?
The best tip I can give is to use one needle tip to go into the bottles to mix the vaccines, draw up the vaccine, then before you are ready to inject the animal, put a new needle tip on the syringe. A sharp needle makes life a lot easier for both you and your pet.

There most definately is a viccine for giardia. It has been available for quite a few years now. Please check with your vet, not the internet.

Re: Neutering?
While I cannot see your dog, what you describe sounds very much to me like perianal adenoma. Which is one of the diseases we attempt to avoid by neutering at an earlier age. You need to address this issue with your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Re: From Puppy to Dog food
Sarah, I am sorry your vet has a hearing impairment, some do. I am suggesting that if your dog has a condition such as heart disease, renal impairment, liver impairment etc. your vet can prescribe a diet that if adhered to, can add a lot of quality years to the pets life. If the owner does not reali...

Re: Royal Canin or Willowy?
It is up to you, some dogs prefer a dry food, others won't eat anything but canned. I can tell you this dry food is much more nutritionally dense than are moist foods, so I would try to get her to eat the bulk of her diet in the dry. You can top the food with a spoonful of canned, or mix it in with ...

Re: Royal Canin or Willowy?
Just some thoughts, you do as you like. :D BHT is a chemical preservative linked to behavioral issues in canines. NOT all canines, but some canines. Vitamin A is pretty high, I think, and since vitamin A is fat soluable and can become toxic. What, I wonder is mineral matter? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Also the...

Re: From Puppy to Dog food
For the record, just MY OPINION, I appreciate Dr. Grant's opinion, but NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, knows their dog like his/her owner, while I certainly advise strongly discussing diet with your pets veterinarian (sometimes a disease or condition can be greatly improved with diet) at the end of the d...

Re: Purina Vetrinary Diets vs Acana
Shellie, I am glad you found a food you like, that works well for your dog. I had to go through a lot of them before I found one that worked for my dog. Either allergies, a nasty coat, or behavioral changes always seemed to be an issue.
Sometimes it takes a while to find the right food.
