Re: Raw Food Diet

Pups do very well on a raw diet! Puppies need to be fed about 10% of their body weight, until the fast growth stages have passed. With my giant breed this can be up to 18-20 months, less the smaller the breed. I foster puppies and adults so everyone begins with chicken (skinless necks, backs, wings ...

Re: Raw Food Diet

Great info here! It's wonderful that more folks are seeking to feed their dogs in a natural and more healthy way. YIPPEE! The niftty thing about raw feeding is that you can ask 10 raw feeders what they do and probably get 10 different answers! I think the one thing they'll all have in common is feed...

Re: ...about the clicker....

I like the ones with a finger loop instead of a wrist coil, easier for me to use. I get them online at the same place I buy my other dog supplies.

Re: Are rawhide bones good for puppies?

The commercial makers, even the USA ones use similar or harsher chemicals to make raw hide before they are ...

I kicked kibble to the curb many years ago, but still try and keep in tune with what should and shouldn't be in kibble. Certainly many dogs can live on low quality kibble- if that wasn't the case those companies wouldn't be as huge as they are. The best thing you can do is learn to read the ingredie...

I actually live in Plano, and adopted a second dog (Buddy) in Denton at Denton Animal Shelter (or Rescue). Check out Pets Supplies Plus at Coit and Legacy, next to Sprouts on the SW corner. Canine Commissary is on the SW corner of Custer and 15th. Both are great places to find quality dog supplies....

Where in N Tx (near Dallas) are you? I live up near Denton. If you are anywhere within driving distance to Plano or Garland check out Canine Commissary (Plano & Garland) or Pet Supplies Plus in Plano. They both offer Taste of the Wild, Orjen, Evo, and a few other of the grain free kibbles. Both ...

I'm happy to fall into the 'other'catagory! Kicked kibble to the curb over 14 yrs ago in favor of raw feeding. :D I've seen longevity of life and overall healthier Danes. We achieve balance over time by feeding a huge variety of meats, bones, organs and green tripe. No supplements other than salmon o...

Good advice. I'll add that even though my Danes respect each others territory when eating recreational bones or at meal times I never, ever leave the room. I may be working or reading a book, but my being right there reminds them to behave.

When I had a houseful of senior Danes (RIP) I took them down the the lake for swimming. Having 6 seniors, I had to alternate days and took 3 at a time. Some days I also included an easy walk around the block. Now I have two young Danes (2.5 yrs old) and I alternate walking and jogging about 2 miles ...

I like to use raw ground beef for general training- I have a squirt bottle with the opening cut a larger to accmodate it. Just squirt a bit into my hand. Gross I know, but the Danes love it!
For really high value treat I use boiled chicken or purchase Canz Real Meat- Fish & Venison.
