Weeing frequently
I didn't know where to put this as it's not so much training as behaviour. If a ***** seems to mark territory on walks by sniffing and weeing frequently, does this mean that she's a dominant *****? Mine seems to do it sooo frequently on walks and also seems to **** her leg up a bit. She does have in...

Re: Doggy Day Care
Jacksdad [btw are you a bloke then being a dad?], I am so pleased you shared your experiences with me as they do so mirror mine. She is keen to get home from DDC or at least seeing me. She'll break off from ball catching or whatever and race up to the gate so that tells me something now. She is more...

Doggy Day Care
The responses to my many doggy day care comments in posts regarding my often unsociable dog, have indicated that ddc is probably not the best idea for her. I am sure you are all saying, why the devil hasn't she stopped taking her to ddc when we keep advising it. The truth is that I'm sure that she l...

Re: To muzzle or not?
From your replies there are two things I'd like to try and comment upon. I think I'll take up another post title on the one issue - Doggy Day care rather than going over it on this post. I have bought two books, Turid Rugaas, calming signals and Scaredy dog by Ali Brown. When I read particularly the...

To muzzle or not?
I have a rottie/collie cross, looks like a rottie but with a longer snout and a white chest. See below. I've had her for a year now although she is around 4 years old and although she is very obedient with me, she takes a dislike to some dogs and not to others. So I never know when to put her back o...

Re: pack behaviour and socialising
Thank you for your responses. If I can relay a little story ..... My friend's daughter had four dogs that lived outside in kennels and a compound. My friend has one house dog. One of the outdoor dogs then moved in with my friend and became a house dog with the other one. Now the daughter has said th...

pack behaviour and socialising
I have been taking my dog to doggy day care, not for looking after in my absence so much as for her socialising as she can be a little fear aggressive. Each time we have gone [a couple of times a week] she has been excitedly whining/whittering in the car all down the road leading to it. However one ...

Re: rabbit killer
Thank you for your answers. She was with my son's small crossbreed so they probably were acting as a small pack as both are chase orientated. I checked to make sure the rabbit was dead and noticed that it had a large closed eye so probably was already ill and had no chance. I usually put her on a le...

rabbit killer
Today I witnessed my dog chase and kill a rabbit. She has always had a chase instinct but I've probably been under the complete misapprehension that she would ever kill anything. Today I was proved wrong. This was in our local heathland/woodland park and it is one of the most wonderful places to wal...

Dog behaviour question
Back to Dulcie at doggie day care! I know it will be difficult to say why you think the behaviour is happening when you don't see it first hand but I should be grateful for any input. Dulcie and Abi [rescue collie] do not like each other I have been told and in the past have had a real fight with bl...

Re: Dodgy dogy doors
This is probably in the wrong forum but here goes. Staywell are very good generally. I would have thought they would have given dimensions on their site which would give you some idea of whether your dog will get through it or not. I have a normal staywell dog flap which is big enough for a bulky la...

Re: How do you feel about encouraging dog to do something
Thank you for your comments. As a side issue, there is also a dog who has just started at training classes who was a brood *****, in a family environment but with a pack. She also demonstrates anxiety at the class, also barking and lunging at other dogs so I take your point that dogs off lead in a p...

Re: How do you feel about encouraging dog to do something
Yes Mattie I thought it would be like that. That's why I put it in quotation marks. I believe in listening, hence my original post. I have also carefully monitored Dulcie at day care. She is sooo excited when we are travelling there and when she's there, there are signs of insecurity initially, i.e....

Re: How do you feel about encouraging dog to do something
I originally went to classes to gain KC Good Citizen certs but she can do everything that's needed without going. Her obedience is very good, so I don't think we need to pursue it. I also liked being with like minded people and their dogs but it appears to be stressful for Dulcie. She goes to doggy ...

How do you feel about encouraging dog to do something
I think both Dulcie and I are pretty in tune with each other and both understand what the other is about to do. So a couple of times she has shown that she isn't happy with doing something that I would like her to do. The first thing has been the cycle attachment that I use for walking her whilst I ...
