Re: Episode 301 - Menace to High Society (Jan 8)

Hi all I admit I only got to see bits and pieces of this episode but I was an avid Housewives of NY watcher. Jill is very argumentative and when I saw she was on "It's me or the Dog" ... I thought .... Victoria is wasting her time with that woman. Jill is the type of person who thinks she ...

Greeting from the Land of too much snow!

Hi Everyone I have been a member of this forum since May of last year. I am the proud owner of Mia (our Shitzu) and Bunny (our Black Lab) Bunny just turned 8 on January 6th and Mia turned 1 year old on November 11th. Bunny and Mia are both rescues and very happy girls now - they love to play with my...

Momma Mia and her best buddies

I've had alot of help from my friends here in training Mia and dealing with her behaviour problems that came with her 6 months ago. I am happy to report she has turned out to be the most lovable and sweetest girl like her 2 friends, Bunny our Black Lab mix and Casey our adorable Sheltie! I have to s...

Thank you Nettle. You and Emma gave really good advice towards Mia. I believe it was you who advised to hold off on the spaying which I am so glad I did.

I feel very comfortable with getting her spayed now. :-)

Mia - new beginnings

When we first got Mia, we had alot of issues with her. I found good advice on this forum. So I wanted to thank everyone who gave input on Mia and wanted to give you all an update. Mia is now 9 months old now. We have had her for almost 5 months now. As you may recall the issues we had with her were:...

Hi Mike We had same problem. What we did and it worked really well is: In the evening: Instead of water, we put ice cubes in her dish. She was still able to quench her thirst by licking the ice cubes and it prevented her from drinking too much to where she had to go during the night. Hope this helps

PS: Yes there are some very good threads and links to read up on in this forum but I enjoy talking to others with similar problems and hear what works for them and any other brilliant ideas they may have as owners. I love to read but I also love to hear others opinions as well. I think it's importan...

So you don't think Paterno runs and ignores owner possibly is not a hormonal problem? I totally disagree. Male dogs not neutered have a strong desire to roam and look for females. I was raised with alot of dogs which were mostly males and sorry but that's exactly what they do. Neuturing does not cur...

Victoria has had quite a few shows on this type of behavior and her techniques work very well. Joggers etc: as soon as you see a jogger / car etc., let your dogs see them as well and quickly walk them away from what is causing them to react. You need to do this before they get too over-excited. So w...

Max Someone suggested putting a couple of ice cubes in water dish to prevent the over drinking. Mia sleeps all night in crate - no accidents. Thanks hon! Now about those smells! The only thing I have ever heard is if another animal has soiled there and was not properly cleaned.... that encourages th...

Hi Katherine I really hope Victoria responds to you. I own a 7 year old black lab. Is your lab neutered? That may be your first step. If he is already neutered, it just may be a matter of working with him on a leash until he gets the idea of "recall". I'm sure you saw Victoria's techniques...

So that's where I've been going wrong but I did figure it out eventually and you just confirmed it.

Thanx Max!

let me clear a misunderstanding up.

I do not leave my "black" dog out all day long especially in inclement weather.

But when I do take her out - I try and keep in the shade and I bring water with me.

Dottie is hearing a sound she doesn't normally hear so yea .... it gets her attention.

Does she have a favorite toy or treat? Use that and instead of growling at her (so to speak). Just try a different pitch (like a squeal).

Have you tried using a dog whistle?

Thank you very much Nettle. Sometimes a person's vision becomes clouded when things happen in their own backyard. I was raised with dogs all my life and I've never seen anything like this before. So I guess the old saying "You learn something new everyday" comes into play here. This was st...
