Re: Fear Aggression

Don't consider it is as a set back - i have had this. Months of training my dog not to react to other dogs and then a dog comes out the blue and attack mine. It is impossible as you say to walk away, or make my dog sit and ignore when another unleashed dog is bouncing all over it - Sometime sthis is...

Re: Don Sullivan's command collar

Hi, I haven't posted on th is site for ages - and i'll tell you why - The posts are so often quite - as this thread misinterpretted and get a little harsh. I very often though still look in on the site. I do understand how this 'debate' starts though - and it has been a learning curve for me. I had ...

Thaks for the reply, i kinda guessed that it may have mixed results. I also want to pick up on your previous reply? perhaps it is the way i have written it, but i don't feel i am getting mixed messages, and i don't want you to feel that i have ignored your advice, but the behaviourist has given me p...

Yeah i am well aware of that, but i guess i mean that i owe it to both of them, for him (and me) to get as much advice and help as possible. It can't hurt, and i certainly feel more assured to have someone correct me, and praise the things i'm doing well. So, back to my original question, has anyone...

Hi, Off his lead he is generally fine. But he does charge up far too fast, but i think that is a matter of time for him to learn, he doesn't get off his lead as much as i would like as i am too aware that he does charge up too fast, and snaps his jaws together which worries me. He hasn't ever bitten...

An update

Hi all, such a long time since i last posted, i thought that i should post an update on my rescue Airedale terrier!! I read one of the suggested books and set about employing all the advice that had been given, but have still been having the same problem with other dogs. Today finally i went to see ...

Interesting, about the bleach i never knew that and have used ALOT of it when my Roxy was a puppy. I was quite clueless when i got Roxy, and spent the first two weeks taking her outside for pees whenever she wimpered, day and night ( i was very tired!). Once i understood her routine, i could then tr...

I have mentioned on another thread that i have used noise aversion with my rescue in the form of a grit bottle, and how i wished i hadn't - make a scared dog worse - oh yes it does, However, when rufus first came to me his behaviour was very challenging and the grit bottle did make him manageable. I...

Time for an update: Rufus has had a visit vext door and met the neighbours, and now he will bark but is quiet once the neighbours speak to him. The piece of our wall with the bricks with holes in i was wondering about covering is now where he waits when he hears a noise, once he sees them he is quie...

Give her time, When i took in my very scared resuce i was told that rescue dogs can take atleast 6 months or more to settle in a new home. I dismissed this. We have now had him 4 months and how silly was i, he has settled in so much more, and actually still improving, finally sitting near us in the ...

I should have said in my last post, but i think the success of the collars depends on the type of dog you have (meaning temprement rather than breed). I think in the time we used the collar, it only every sprayed him on a couple of occasions, he knew when we put it on him that he had to be quiet, th...

Hi, i am not sure what others will think about this, as i was very dubious, but when i first got my rescue dog he howled and cried and was beserk when i left him. Although i knew that we could over come it, my neighbours were being disturbed and therefore needed a relatively 'quick fix' so i used a ...

Thanks for the advice emmabeth, I was concerned that the treat idea might not work. It is difficult when we have such high fences (the dogs can jump super high - thats what you get from taking them to agility class! ha ha But yeah will try that, like i say generally they don't bark at all, po...

Barking at the neighbours

I have read other threads hoping that this was covered, but can't see it. New problem has emerged with summer, when i'm out the dogs have their own door, and are good as gold, no issues.... until my neighbour uses her garden, we have a 6 foot fence so the dogs can't see her, but barks at the noise. ...
