Re: Finding a good vet

Ask around, go by reviews of people you don't know, and lots of people you do, although just like any human doctor, it will take some time to build a relationship. I just went to a new vet this time around - I left my old one which was recommended to me, but this new vet has so far been great. She c...

Re: Helping the "New Dog" to Get Along With the "First" Dog

I don't mean to bump an old post but I was doing a search as we're looking into bringing a second dog into the family in about a month. This has been very helpful! Thanks for sharing Fundog!

Re: Nothing But Pitbulls

mselisabs, You said "Frankly, I wouldn't touch a Chow Chow that I didn't know with a 10-foot pole (as they are meant to guard their people from strangers.)" is saying and doing the same thing to Chow Chows as a lot of people have about any dog classified as Pitbulls. First of all, you don...

Re: Bathing and Frontline

You should only need to apply it once a month. You *should* wait a few days after apply it (after it has completely 'dried out') but it should be effective the whole 30 days regardless of bathing/swimming.

Re: Clipping baby puppy nails...

Not sure what kind of puppy you have (chihuahua compared to a lab...) but if they are small/thin enough you can always use a cat nail clipper: http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Pet-Produ ... 842&sr=8-3

There are a bunch of threads about food and what you should be looking for. Eukanuba is not recommended: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food ... i=eukanuba

Re: best kind of dog food

Definitely check the aforementioned site. Looking at dog food ingredients can be very overwhelming, so start by looking at the first five ingredients and learn more and more from there. :) There should NEVER be: by-products ('chicken by-product'), unnamed meat (ex, 'meat meal' vs 'chicken meal'), bo...

Re: Frozen Treats

I love to cut up a banana and freeze the chunks. Then I'll chuck them into the yard so she has to find them. :) I think I'll try apples this year too. I'll also cut up little pieces of hot dogs and put them into a container so it freezes into a block of ice.

Re: My Dogs Mad 5 Mins

Haha! Funny video, beautiful dog! She'll get the "11 o'clock crazies" if she hasn't had proper exercise, gunning it through the apartment. Most frequently she gets the 'bum tuck zoomies' after a bath, though - lots of pent up nervous energy! So we play chase! And then >crash<

Re: Suspected allergy or skin condition

Chewing/itchy feet is a very common sign of allergies. Thankfully this can be controlled by diet - but it can take up to 5-8 weeks for them to get over their allergy after a food change, so do not worry if you don't see immediate results.

Olive the Brittany

My sister just sent this onto me from our trip to see family over Christmas and I had to share! sonny_olive.jpg Sonny is the brindle staffie mix to the left - the wide-eyed wrinkly forehead cracks me up! And Olive is Ms. Dorky Smile. I had a nice women at the dog park once say she had a beautiful sm...

Re: Nothing But Pitbulls

"Pit Bulls" are actually not a breed but a classification. From akc.org: "'Pit Bull' is defined as a dog identified or registered as an American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, or American Staffordshire terrier with a dog breed club or league, dog fanciers association, b...

Re: How much exercise?

It can depend on the dog - we have one dog park frequenter that has a boxer puppy and she says sometimes the puppy is so tired she carries her up the front steps into the house. That might be a sign your puppy is getting *too much* exercise! Every pup is different so pick up on the signals they give...
