Thanks!! I will look into these ideas. One thing I forgot to mention was that she shows no sign of redness and /or flakiness. Everything looks normal, she just keeps scratching. I had her at the groomer's for nail clipping this morning so I asked her advice. She said it could be allergies to grass t...

Itchy, Itchy, Itchy!!!

Hello again, I've been absent for a while but now I have a new question. Katie seems to have a BAD case of itchy skin, especially her belly. Cannot find any evidence of fleas or other critter issues and she is getting preventives for those anyway. I am hoping you all can recommend a topical spray/lo...

I had heard that Avon stuff works for people tho haven't tried it myself. For those of you who do use it on your four legged friends, how often do you apply it? Katie is outside some everyday for walks and on her tether when it is not too hot or raining. I really do not want to have to apply it ever...

I have the Wal-mart version of the mesh Sporn, it does not instantly stop pulling (lab/whippet 8mos old). What it does do is give me more control and protects the neck. Definitely read the "loose-lead walking" thread. It did WONDERS for our issues. The lunging at squirrels/cats/other dogs/...

bug management?

Here is my problem. I really cannot afford the expensive flea/tick/mosquito treatments like Frontline or Advantage. Can anyone reccommend something that I can get at Wal-Mart or Petsmart? I have used Hartz and Sargents products for years for my cats without problems (spot on, not collars), but I do ...

Thanks, guys! This is very interesting. I guess I have that mindset that all dogs should be "cuddled and spoiled" some. But if the dog is doing what it loves most, that is reward enough for him. I can only assume it has all its other needs met as I have not even seen the dog. I walk past t...

Good point about undoing training. I am experiencing some of that myself while trying to get the whole family on board with positive methods, and consistant ones at that. This family does have several kids of varying ages and a crazy schedule so being very consistant with the dog would be important....

Hunting vs Family Dog?

OK, I am curious. I have a friend who says the family is not allowed to "play" with the Dad's hunting dog. Apparantly, he is trained on a regular basis and gets lots of work in hunting season, and she says he is VERY good at his job and loves it. But at home, he is kept alone in his outdoo...

Body shape is very similar to my Katie. We think she is lab/whippet.

Are his feet webbed like a labs?

Katie is the "Katie at the Beach" thread (Gen Discussion). Her legs may be a bit longer than Midnight's He is a cutie! :P

No, it is just a standard step-in type. I did not want to get her cushioned no-pull one wet.

As promised, though late. Here is Katie's first beach photo!

I wish I had not put the camera up too soon as she had a BLAST ducking and rolling in the tide pools  ! The waves were really not her thing yet.

Hi! I have one of those hollow bones as well and Katie loves it. Mine is the perfect size to hold a cheese stick in. Katie works at it forever until I have to give the cheese a push closer to one end so she can finally pull it out  I have made a version of that custard but did not think to put ...

The corn cob is actually the danger. I just saw an episode of "Animal Cops" where a dog died of apparent starvation, the vet found that its intestinal tract was completely blocked by a corn cob  . She stated that unfortunately this can be common when people let their dogs have the cob...

:P We're Back!!! We had a FANTASTIC weekend! Katie was an angel. Even with the deer coming to eat from the kids hands, the raccoons fighting over watermelon rinds, and the flies and skeeters, she was perfect! Her crate really did the trick at night, only one bark in the dark. We even left her in it ...
