Wait... I was told to never, ever give dogs chicken bones, because they can sliver and choke, or worse cause internal bleeding. I could be wrong, but I've been told that my whole life. Also, I give my dog a supplement called Fresh Dog. Sometimes bad breath can be caused by the stomach rather than te...

Sorry to hear it didn't work out, but you never ever want to feel unsafe in your own home, and you don't just have yourself to worry about. Even if you didn't end up taking him home, even considering adopting a dog is a great thing. And continuing to help him afterwards is even more amazing. So pick...

You can try "Pawz" for days when dogs need to give their pads a break. They're disposable booties that are kind of like balloons to cover dogs feet. They are thin and aren't going to protect against rocks or glass, but are great for walks on concrete while your dogs feet heal. Also here ar...

Sick Dog

I know a forum is no substitute for a vet, but I have a dog who the vet seems to be unable to diagnose. I am taking him back this week, but if anyone has had similar experiences, or has any ideas I would appreciate it. I have a retired racing greyhound who had developed some serious stomach problems...

I haven't gotten a chance to read Victoria's book (I'm more of a T.V. nerd), but you can also give them some background on why people use crates and why most dogs actually like them. Many people think dogs started off as cave dwellers, like humans were, and bears are now. Meaning that dogs naturally...

Afraid of the Bed!

I've had my adopted Greyhound for a few months, and recently he has developed a fear of my bed. I know for some people this would be a blessing, but Finn (my dog) is very polite, bordering on unsureness. (He has never been in a home environment before). I wouldn't say he is over nervous or stressed....

Another thing you can add to water, if you are worried about dehydration is Gatoraide, or some other kind of sports drink with electrolytes. People do this for dogs who run lure-coursing. Don't just give them a bottle of it, rather put about a half cup in for every eight ounces or so. The measuremen...

Oh Brittanys... I agree with the exercise comment, especially with the one year old. If you have somewhere for them to run run run that's best. My parents brittany can run for HOURS (no really) just make sure you're watching them for fatigue, because they won't tell you when they're over work...

My Greyhound Finn is a BIG boy. A 90 pound greyhound that stands only a few (maybe 2) inches shorter than his Great Dane friends at the dog park. Anyway I live downtown where's there are lots of people and things to see, and Finn really LOVEs kids. I don't know when he's been around them, but he lig...

LOL!

Some of you may have seen my earlier post about my greyhound marking, in the methods section. When I was searching google about that I came across this product. (Scroll down to the "Belly Bands") Too cute... http://www.cgashop.com/en-us/dept_13.html (This is in no way an endorsement,...

Deer antlers! :0)

They are one of THE greatest dog chews I've ever found. You can pick them up during shed season, at some pet stores, and the internet. I know it sounds a little like a commercial, but for really tough chewers these are great.

Also, I would read up on the dominance theory sticky here in the forums. I don't think most dogs jump up as a dominance issue, there are lots of reasons dogs can jump up. Starting with attention seeking, not knowing how to play gently, too much energy to contain etc... I did however have a dog that ...

I've had some good info from the adoption organization before I got him, and they gave me an appropriate leash for greyhound's long necks and tendency to take off. We went around to the windows and I showed him they were solid with his nose, gently of course. He does get a chance to run around when ...

Any volunteer work you do looks great on a job application, and a college application. It shows you have a passion about something, and that you can work hard. Different places have different rules about age. Our shelter doesn't let anyone under 18 volunteer unsupervised and then doesn't let them wo...
