I don't understand why anyone would use a prong collar, shock collar, or any other device to train their dog or any animal! When we are teaching our children something, we don't use any tortureous device on them, so why should we use such devices as prong collars? Personally, I think it goes back t...

Ah, I forgot about that show. I couldn't watch that one either. In my opinion, he was worse than CM. =(

It may be part of his genes. When I fostered 6 labrador pups (from same litter) for 5 months, they were all very gangly, but had been with the rescue since birth, so they were all very well fed. Now that they are older (about 2 years) they have built up some muscle and filled out.

I personally can't watch "the other" show. It makes me want to cry, then it makes me want to yell at the tv.

It's very interesting to me to hear other people's opinions. Thanks to Mattie and Noobs to your advice. I did purchase an Easy Walk harness today and I'm going to try it on him instead of the prong. Fingers crossed it's enough for him!

Also, your comment on the halti being for safety in case the dog spots a squirrel: if a dog spots a squirrel and lunges for it, the halti could snap his head back and do bad damage to his neck. In a situation like this the halti can break a dog's neck. So, Noobs and Mattie, not to get anyone fired ...

ChillyAndClover, maybe if the owner of this dog had taught him to walk properly on a lead before running next to their bike, there wouldn't have been any need for a prong collar. I don't like halties either, I have a friend who knows a dog that broke his neck with one of these. You can put as many g...

I believe prong collars do not have a place in training, especially positive training! The only time I have used such a device is when I had a client with a large, boistrous Lab mix who was fearful of the gentle leader. She had to use the gentle leader on him for safety reasons; she rode the bike al...

This video might help you with your mat training. She uses clicker training, but she does not add the doorbell cue, she adds a verbal cue. If I were you, I would have some one ring the doorbell at the moment you should add the verbal cue, as shown in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVGasly...

Maybe you could teach him to blow bubbles in his water bowl? You can find a tutorial on Youtube. I taught Clover to do it and she loves it! She now blows bubbles even when I don't ask her to. =)

What kind of training are you doing with him, who is the trainer? In my opinion, you should get proffessional help. This could escalate into something much worse, and if not treated immediately, you may never be able to trust him again. Trust me, I know it sounds harsh and hard to imagine, but it's ...

She should definatley be with her littermates, or she will miss the "critical period" that puppies go through to learn how to properly communicate with their species, and this would include that biting and snapping hurts. If she learns this, it will be a lifelong lesson that will effect he...
