the flags were used in relationship w/the "leave it" command. VS started by associating the flag w/ the leave it command. I'll try to describe it best I can: Hide the flag behind back w/ one hand. Bring flag forward when dog approaches, use "leave it" command when dog removes nos...

Thanks for the responses Based on some reviews I saw on other sites, I went ahead and bought one. Boy it that a double edges sword. Our dog LOVES it. While a rawhide would only last her 30minutes or so, this thing is on day 3 with plenty of life left in it. However, they should come w/ a smell warni...

Hooves (to chew on) questions

My dog is a chewer. She make short work of rawhides (given in moderation) & needs things to chew on. I have a sterilized beef bone which provides some interest if smeared w/ Peanut butter, a Kong and a few rubber toys. I was wondering the benefit or hooves as chewing alternatives. I have read th...

Talk to me about Canidae

This is what we are currently feeding our dog. It seems to be considered a good brand but I was wondering your experience?

Your experience w/ Canidae dog food & digestive concerns

My dog has always been on Canidae (even at her former home). She is a 30lb Collie who eats 2cups daily (1C AM/ 1C PM). She is on the single protein of Canidae Chicken All Life Stages. It is my understanding that this is a good dog food but I would love some feedback from others who have used it. I h...

Thanks for your replies. to answer the Q's: No I have not tried a 30ft leash but I have a feeling that is going on the shopping list. I switched from a 4ft to a 6ft but I can understand that she may need more distance. As for praise, I give lots of verbal praise for potty accomplishments but try to ...

Going potty while on a leash (on a walk)

I don't think our dog was ever walked long enough on a leash to know its ok to go potty while out walking. The family we adopted her from did assorted training on the leash but never went on walks. She went out to potty as part of a pack so we have been working on going potty solo in our fenced yard...

Thanks so much. You reinforced and added to some of my concerns as to whether or not this would be a good investment. I think I will just handle the expenses should they come up.

Thank you for such a quick response. I know we are doing some things well and some things we need guideance/improvements on. I will probably buy a treat dispenser I can carry around on my wrist or waist so I can offer that "higher value" exchange when she snags our stuff while working on &...

Potty Indicators & chewing issues

In Nov we were given an 11mth old dog. She came to us crate trained, leash trained and w/ a basic understanding of many commands. It has been a couple of months now and we are still struggling w/ a couple of issues. I understand there is transition time and she is still a puppy but I am hoping some ...
