teaching to speak

cheesehawk, we do play with her like that, but she doesn't even growl. She growled once when it started raining really hard and she could hear it and couldn't figure ot what it was until we showed her.

Nettle, I had to laugh at your comment. My hubby agrees with you!

reactive dogs

This is just my opinion, and I am not an expert. But I think by taking your dogs on walks, it gets them more used to different things and experiences. Each walk is going to be different, even if you are taking the same path everyday. It could be different weather, meeting different dogs, passing a s...

How to train a dog to "speak?"

We have had Pepper for a little over a month and she is very smart and catches on quick, but she may have been punished for barking by a previous owner. She is a rescue and she has only let out a couple of tiny little barks the entire time she has been here. When she did bark, she quickly looked at ...

beagle biting

I agree with both posters! The woman should not have allowed her dog to approach without permission. And who knows what kinds of signals the shar pei was giving your dog? For all we know, that dog may have had plans to bite YOU and your dog stopped it. Who ever knows?

Shybird, I think that is a good idea to demonstrate. Hopefully there will be some who pay attention.

I have noticed that a lot of dogs do this. I just think of it as normal behavior.

Victoria vs Cesar

I watch both shows. IMO, both shows are beneficial despite displaying different training techniques. There are so many horrible dog owners and both shows profile such. As mentioned, often it is the owners who are the problem, not the dog. In that respect, both shows identify techniques that teach t...

Beagles are typically very vocal dogs. I really don't know what is causing her to nip at you, but I know that the behavior needs to be stopped now before it gets worse. Hopefully someone will come along and give you some good advice. By the way, what is a "Pocket Beagle?" A miniature? I've...

About grooming

I just wanted to mention that I got a Pedi-Paws for Christmas, and it takes some time to get your dog acclimated to it. I took my time and now can use it on Pepper without any problems. She deosn't "like" it, but she tolerates it. So that's a start. Just keep in mind that it is a slow proc...

This is Pepper

Here is Pepper the day we got her. She was quite a scruffy little thing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/PDQ/Pepper/Pepper008.jpg And here she is 2 days later after her first grooming. We were very pleased, but she wasn't! LOL! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v498/PDQ/Pepper/Pepper010.jpg S...
