Ours was doing this VERY aggressively with us- sort of like Noobs said, more like a b#tchslap! He would more place his hand on you, but he's got a lot of force behind this hand and would be very pushy about wanting it on you. He's stopped doing it with now since we never, ever ask him to do it. But ...

Confidence builders...

I've got a husky mix whom I've posted about before. He seems like he's improving but still has some big confidence issues. I've enrolled him into obedience class as I hear that is a great way to boost a dog's confidence. I wanted it to be easy for him (he shuts down quickly when he's learning someth...

Mattie, I'm sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean any offense by my "the dog is training you to only call it at certain times" comment. It was just my interpretation of "only call the dog when you know he will come" and me not fully grasping how to move from that, to perf...

Re: Regarding VIctoria's Separation Anxiety training

do I give her the kong each of those times? Or isit for the times that we really are leaving? In my opinion if you only give the kong when you are really leaving, she'll very quickly learn that means the leave is "real." I would always give her the kong even when practicing short times of...

... I don't call my dog unless I know they are going to come back... I am confused about when and how you add distractions though- Because eventually you do want your dog to come to you no matter what, even if another dog is in the vicinity, or if they are sniffing something interesting... right? I...

Interesting, so it is stress-related, you think? I had wondered about that, that maybe it (chewing) just gives him something to do- because he also likes to play with his toys when he's home alone. When the cat is around, I do place his favorite toys near him (I posted about that before, he is a bit...

I wondered the same as feathers- I feel like they are still learning to come to you only when they feel like it. What do you do if they don't come? Just let them go do whatever? It seems almost self rewarding then, not to come- you may have their favorite treat, but if they only come when they're no...

What's the connection here...?

My dog seems obsessed with my cat, but the cat wants nothing to do with him. The cat is not scared of him, and luckily the dog keeps a respectful distance of her. He completely fixates on the cat if she's within view, and it's impossible to distract him (sometimes when the cat is around I have tried...

If everyone has a chewy and as long as he doesnt take these out of the other dogs mouths, He does that with my mom's dogs all the time :( She'll try to give each dog a treat or chewy so that it's fair and she has seen him go over and, litererally, take the treat right out of the other dogs' mouths!

He definitely has great manners with people. When we go to my husband's parents' house, I do make sure there aren't toys around because their dog is obsessed with our dog and wants to be his best friend!! When our dog has a toy, he doesn't understand that the other dog just wants to come cuddle up w...

Resource Guarding

My dog's very much a resource guard when it comes to other animals. He's shown no signs of it with us- when we pick up his toys, he has no issue, he'll give them to us, etc. However, when we visit family, if there are multiple dogs in the room with toys, our dog will go and take the other dogs' toys...

Yes, he is 3 years old and before we had him, he had NO rules on a leash. Ever. My friends (who had him and then gave him to us) just let him do everything he wanted, going as far as the leash would let him go. I've been told at 3 years old they are like teenagers, and will test you constantly, so a...

Oh andplusalso, Mattie what you said here: all I need to do now is stop, once I stop my dogs check and say "Sorry Mum, I was too excited", and start to walk on a loose lead. I may have to do this 2/3 times when we first go out but they don't pull because I stop before they start pulling. s...
