Re: dog safe weed killer please

Hi Mansbestfriend, *Most* spray-on weed killers are safe for our pets to walk on after the spray has dried. I chose to spray at a time when I would be able to give the liquid at least two hours to dry before allowing the dogs on the lawn, though it certainly does not take two hours. I chose that tim...

Re: Pawz dog boots

Hi Judy, I had the Pawtective boots for Ringo. I would use them when he would lick his paws due to allergies. Only use the boots when Jasper goes out or when you cannot supervise him while he is inside (your need for sleep, etc.). The boots should be off the feet / paws as much as possible to allow ...

Re: Pet treats of Chinese origin

Hi Erica, To try to answer your questions about why companies still choose to either manufacture in China, or use ingredients from China sadly, the answer is very basic - greed. Manufacturing costs in China are a pittance of what they are in the United States, the UK and other areas of the world. In...

Re: Pet treats of Chinese origin

Hi Nettle, From the words of another poster, it made it sound like the food monitoring in the UK was much, much better than what we have here in the US. Sadly, I guess none of them are to be trusted. It is why I started preparing Ringo's food and why I made his cookies. I was curious about the "...

Re: Pet treats of Chinese origin

Hi Judy, I wish the FDA and other supposed "food watchdogs" in the US were half as diligent and caring as those that monitor foods for all species in the UK. What the FDA allows is sickening. Anywho, that isn't what you asked. I really like the reply you received from Kate. I read and re-r...

Re: Jasper isn't well

Hi Judy, I am sorry to hear Jasper isn't feeling well again. I would not leave his water bowl down, but I would not deprive him from having water, either. Give Jasper small amounts of water at any one time. You will know if it was "too much" at any one time, as he won't keep it down. But g...

Re: Lucy's eye sight

Hi LucyandBella, I am not familiar with the condition your puppy has, but in the later years of his life Ringo developed some problems with his eyes and I took him to a veterinary ophthamologist. Ringo was initially diagnosed with conjunctivitis by his regular doctor. But when the "conjunctivit...

Re: Broth

Hi Judy, I am glad to hear Jasper is feeling better. Depending how much broth you have, you can pour it into plastic cups and freeze it. The smaller portions will be "just right" for when he is feeling well, but you want to give him some additional flavor. You can also pour it into ice cub...

Re: Tongue

Hi WufWuf, If you have a cookie rack (or something similar) that is oven safe, put that on your baking pan, then put the tongue stips on the rack. You may want to spray / wipe the rack with a little oil to keep the tongue from sticking. The fat will drip into the baking pan and your tongue pieces wo...

Re: Limping

Hi Sweetie's Human, I hope Sweetie continues to do well. You asked about supplements, particularly Fish Oil, that anyone was giving to their dogs. Ringo weighed approximately 68 lbs. when I started giving him Fish Oil. His weight eventually dropped to 58 lbs. (right before he passed away), but the d...

Re: Jasper isn't well

Hi Judy, I hope Jasper is feeling better soon. You said he had some cheese last night. Is it possible he is constipated? I wouldn't give him anything other than the boiled chicken broth and rice for today. Keep a close eye on his eliminations. I know, sounds yucky, but it is necessary. Make sure Jas...

Re: New Chemical Castration Approved by FDA

Hi All, I don't understand why some people (or companies or vets) are so invested in neutering / spaying dogs until they hit maturity. It has already been established that early altering prevents the animal from properly maturing "between the ears," and for females, the point in their cycl...

Re: Tongue

Hi WufWuf, I have problems looking at tongue, let alone touching or serving it. I know many consider it a delicacy. Eww. Anywho, you didn't ask for my food issues. ;) I don't know how to skin a tongue, so those here can advise you in that matter. If you have a food dehydrator, slice the tonge into l...

Re: Thinking out loud please chime in

Hi MPbandmom, I do not know where you are located, so I apologize in advance if some of this information may not be useful to you. I think the idea of asking hunters for the organs is a good idea. But you must impress upon them that they have to treat the organs with respect, put them in plastic (ra...
