board and train
I was wondering if anyone on this forum has an opinion on board and train? I just wonder if when I go away is this a better option. Previously, I have left my dog in the house of my dog walker/trainer but she doesn't train with boarding. I don't know. It seems in my area board and train does not cos...

Re: Resource Guarding - treats
I agree with managing it. The more times you let her practice it, the more she will think it works. I would not even give her treats in the dog park if it were me. Of the park was very empty and all of the dogs were otherwise occupied maybe, but its still a situation that is causing her stress. Even...

Re: How to reward good behaviour with food aggressive dog
I agree with everyone that says pain is part of the critical picture here. Its virtually impossible to condition a dog thats in pain. Aggression issue will be exponentially amplified by the pain as the dog is under a constant level of stress. Pain is a major reason for aggression. It makes sense. It...

Dog walking apps
Has anybody used them? I am looking into Rover. I like it as you can pick the person that is coming and do meet and greet etc. What is anyone's experience with these apps? Are they good for repeat walks on a regular schedule or is it more for one-offs.

Re: Swollen Lymph nodes
Thanks. I am still waiting for blood results. After a few days of anti-inflammatories which were originally perscribed for her hip she is back to her calm, happy self.

Re: Degenerative Myelopathy?
Also, I thought Degenerative Myelopathy had a known genetic cause. SOD1 gene. Not like hip dysplasia which is more complex.

Re: Degenerative Myelopathy?
You could maybe ask the breeder if you could do a DNA test on the puppy you are interested in or else even just the Mom. I think results take a few week, so it really depends on your timeline. Embark is more pricey but really a lot more comprehensive. There may be holiday sales right now.

Swollen Lymph nodes
Hi All- I have a 2 yo extra large dog. I took her to the orthopedist yesterday for a check up (she had loose hips and pain as a puppy). I had noticed in the last few weeks she has just been off. Acting weirdly aggressive at times, seemed depressed, not coming upstairs to say hi in the morning, etc. ...

Where I live a few places offer classes for "feisty fidos." Perhaps you can find one or the rescue organization can arrange some help for you!

Re: Rescue dog aggressive on leash
Have you tried a head halter? I would recommend a comfort trainer or a snootloop but there are many versions and they are all fairly effective. It will take some conditioning but it will remove the scare factor from the walks. My dog reacts positively to some dogs, ignores others and reacts what I c...

Re: Dog barking in the night
If he has access to window views, I would block them asap. If he is barking looking out the window, I recommend luring away with a yummy treat and then asking for a sit/stay. You can also teach quiet, which from my experience is not that easy but its not too bad either. You need to teach the dog to ...

Re: dog seems aggressive to certain dogs
I have often noticed boxers really not knowing when to let up. I didn't realize that about the smush faces dogs not being able to give the right signals. Interesting...my friend's labrodor also frequently takes issue with bulldogs in particular. I a very much into the keeping her safe and really not...

Re: dog seems aggressive to certain dogs
Okay, thanks for the tips. I guess there is really is not much more I could be doing. Its fairly easy for me to tell which dogs are going to be a problem for her. Like your dog she is not a huge fan of dogs that just bounce up to her but those are not the ones that she is really bothered by as she w...

dog seems aggressive to certain dogs
Hi Everyone- Looking for some advice. I have a 2 yo female Anatolian Shepherd dog. She is typically a relaxed dog. Generally speaking, good with people and the majority of dogs. But I have noticed that certain types of dogs really trigger her. Typically, these are dogs that I can see are maybe not t...
