He was not a fighter, he got on very well with the neighborhood dogs but he must have known that that dog was going to harm my girl. We learned later that the visitors dog had bitten other children, even it's own children. They know things about other dogs and people long before we do. When I was a...

No not skunk, skunk smell is baaaaad. Besides they are completely differently shaped and have a black and white color scheme. We have those too and I'm all too familiar with that smell (fortunately I have never been skunk sprayed personally but they do have a way of leaving their particular cologne ...

Sounds like you scared the poor thing. I know they can be pretty freaky when they hiss and tick (and their teeth are very pointy) but they do that right before they "drop dead" (along with releasing a foul musk) its really quite repulsive and completely involuntary.

Of course Nettle! I think I borrowed it from a friend who probably borrowed it from a friend :D Ruth, I don't have any experience using pens for time outs so I can't answer that for you. But I wanted to assure you that 90% of the time (unless you have a very sensitive dog that startles easily and do...

Stop holding his jaw shut and telling him no. Actually, I'm not a big fan of the word "no" being used unless its an actual command (we teach our dogs that "no" means "stop, sit, look at me") Yelp loudly when he nips, move away and ignore him for 6-10 seconds (puppies do...

You might want to casually drop in conversation that the raccoons they are attracting increase the likelihood of rabies unless they take the time to catch vaccinate and neuter all those cats.

Glad its not just my dogs who occasionally get to go to the 'magic food window'... Here, doggies order a cheeseburger (they like the pickles), which is terrible of me... But the rest of the time they eat raw...and mostly they eat from their own bowls rather than my food off my plate... cos we would...

I like doggies :D I have to go with the all things in moderation, including moderation system as seems to work for my animals. While I don't think kibble is the root of all evil, I also don't think that one kind of food with absolutely no variation is going to do a body good. My kids like pizza and ...

The opossum around here are pretty docile in general, but even under the stress of being moved-- she didn't mind Greta (or anyone for that matter) being near her or the babies. Edited to add: BTW I'm in the Mid Willamette valley of Oregon, so our opossum are the not the same kind that you'd find in ...

Esprit64, the conspiracy theories make you sound psychotic. I'm always up for a good conversation where I can learn something new, but I have to quit when the plot hatching comes out. If you'd like to make your point using actual facts please continue, otherwise I need to go somewhere else and play ...

You can also take a kitchen spoon (wood or plastic) with some peanut butter on it (or wet dog food, or liver pate but peanut butter will give you a longer time window) snap on the leash and keeps the spoon right over Gunners nose, allowing him to get just a scant taste of the good stuff now and then...
