Re: New reactivity to small dogs who growl
Thanks Nettle, I hadn't thought of rewarding her each time I put her on the lead (which I generally do when we see a dog in the distance). I will do that. The good thing is that when we see another dog on our walks and she is offleash she always stops, I call her back and she easily goes on her lead...

New reactivity to small dogs who growl
Hi all Our dog L, who we know has a border collie mum and looks like she might have some kelpie in her and maybe some whippet has just turned 1. She is on the small medium size. Until recently she used to greet each dog she saw coming towards her by lying down. She gets on with most dogs and likes t...

Re: 2nd fear period
Thanks Shalista and Nettle Will work on the safe space crate in our room on weekends and after school too so she can have some down time. I realised last night when I found her licking the bbq tools that hang off the side of the bbq that it must have been the smoke as JudyN suggested and you confirm...

Re: 2nd fear period
Thanks for your reply JudyN. I think what may happen is that in the weekends she gets overtired and then oversensitive. Generally she is more barky on the weekends because of this but yesterday was a whole new level!. I work from home so during the week we have a great routine. I take her for a half...

2nd fear period
First I just want to thank all of you who post such wise advice on this site! It has saved me asking loads more questions as I can generally find what I need by doing a keyword search. I do have a question today, however. Our 6 month old border collie cross came to live with us at about 8 weeks. She...

Re: Puppy play question
Great, thank you. Will stop the play dates! The other dog's walker (not her owner) was uncomfortable too.

Puppy play question
Hi, my 6 month old border collie cross puppy has a Wednesday lunch playdate with a staffie pup with is a couple of months older. They are about the same size (ie smallish) and seem to really like each other. The problem is when they are running free on the beach and puppy playing the staffie bites L...

Re: Hello
Thanks! Yes had a read more about border collies before we got her I may have been put off but she's a wonderful family dog, loves children and playing with other dogs and is very affectionate. I can take her to watch the boys play soccer, rugby or cross country and she is calm with hundreds of kids...

Re: Lab puppy sometimes jumps/nips while playing outside
Hi I am new to this forum, We have a border collie cross puppy (about 6 months) who sometimes does the same as your lab puppy. I have heard it is best to avoid saying no to an unwanted behaviour but it seems to work with Luna if i say it in a slow way while stopping and turning my back. She gets ver...

Hello
Hello, we have a border collie cross (maybe with kelpie) puppy called Luna. She is nearly 6 months old and mostly pretty great! This is our first puppy and I quickly discovered that it is quite similar to having your first child - first of all there is all the unasked for advice (often contradictory...
