Re: How do I stop my dog barking in the garden at night?
Thank you for your suggestions. It's difficult to know, sometimes, whether he actually needs to wee or not or, as I suspect, he just wants to go outside when it's finally cool out there and he can bark at cats, dogs, squirrels etc. At the moment, as soon as it gets dark he is reluctant to settle ind...

How do I stop my dog barking in the garden at night?
I've posted on here about my 2 year old rescue Saluki/ greyhound lurcher Sparky and now I have a new problem...every time he goes out to wee in the garden in the dark (and sometimes during the day) he barks like mad. It's a proper territorial "ru ru ru ru ru ru" with stiff body posture, st...

Re: Stopping my lurcher jumping up & barking at me on walks
Ok, I will try to keep going with the back-turning. He's just so embarrassing sometimes (well, a lot of the time, actually!!) I am seeing my lovely-sounding (haven't actually met her yet) new dog trainer this Thursday about his recall and to meet some horses, so I will ask her about this issue too. ...

Re: Stopping my lurcher jumping up & barking at me on walks
Thank you JudyN! I will watch the YouTube clip you suggest and I have also just ordered some tubes of liver paste for dogs so maybe when I stop to chat I can keep squeezing it into his mouth! He's ok with dogs he knows but I think groups of unknown dogs definitely raise his stress levels and I alway...

Stopping my lurcher jumping up & barking at me on walks
Can anyone help with another of Sparky's behaviour problems? He's a 19 month old saluki/ greyhound lurcher. If we're out for a walk & I stop to talk to someone with a dog, Sparky gets really impatient and barks a lot at me - it's very much directed at me rather than my other half (but he occasio...

Re: lurcher behaviour problems!
Hi Zara D
Many thanks for the information - I've just looked at the websites you suggested and I've found a trainer close to me who might be able to introduce Sparky to horses!
I don't know much about dog breeds (being a fellow first time owner) but giant Schnauzers look gorgeous!

Re: lurcher behaviour problems!
Thanks for all the advice on here. I had a session with a new dog trainer yesterday but unfortunately won't be using him again as there was far too much yanking on Sparky's collar for my liking (which Sparky did not like one bit and was pretty confused by) and I also got told off for stroking him ju...

Re: lurcher behaviour problems!
Thank you - you have really cheered me up when I was at my most desperate!! I am looking forward to meeting the new trainer tomorrow and working on impulse control. I also know one or two people whose Saluki crosses aren't allowed off lead due to aggression and thankfully that's not a problem with S...

Re: lurcher behaviour problems!
Thank you so much for such detailed and comprehensive responses - I will do my best to provide all the information you asked for... Monday, Tuesday and Friday: Breakfast at 6.30 - then sleeps on sofa. Out with dog walker from 11 - 3. We return home from school/ work from 4 onwards. He has games with...

Re: lurcher behaviour problems!
Thank you for your reply. I will have a look at Walking Ollie for some light relief! Sparky's recall is generally pretty good - unless there are deer, rabbits or horses involved! I've taken him to a couple of dog behaviourists - the first was a bit ineffectual to be honest but to be fair it was when...

lurcher behaviour problems!
Hi I'm new on here and am hoping that someone can offer me some reassurance about my 19 month old rescue saluki/ greyhound cross Sparky. He's got a lovely nature and is very affectionate and loves cuddles on the sofa. He's our first ever dog and neither of us have ever had dogs when growing up. Litt...
