Re: I can't stop my dog from jumping

Second, for issues with jumping, I recommend to keep a leash on on at all times to better be able to correct her, and to do it more quickly. Because what happens is even if the dog is corrected eventually, if they are allowed to successfully jump up then the behavior is reinforced and is more likel...

Re: I can't stop my dog from jumping

My first piece of advice is always to make sure the dog is well-exercised- a lot of dogs have excess energy which makes problem behaviors even more of a problem! Second, for issues with jumping, I recommend to keep a leash on on at all times to better be able to correct her, and to do it more quickl...

What social media outlets do you use for training?

Hi everyone! I have sort of a general survey question for everybody. As a dog trainer, I am currently looking for different ways to reach out to the dog community to give training advice and tips and demonstrate/teach tricks. I was just wondering what other social media outlets you are most likely t...

Re: Recommended books?

Decoding Your Dog is a great place to start: it gives a ton of info about a variety of dog-related topics that are super useful to dog owners. Another go-to book is The Other End of The Leash by Patricia McConnell. These books both provide positive training methods and really useful insights into d...

Re: Long lasting chews

I think I actually posted this as a response in one of your other posts as well, but my dog Sasha LOVES frozen raw bones, which you can buy at most/many pet supply stores. They have the marrow inside them still so the dogs really have to work to get that out, and it takes Sasha (who is a VERY avid c...

Re: Teeth brushing

There are some good minty sprays that you can use, or mint-flavored dog treats! My Sasha also LOVES frozen raw bones with the marrow still in them, which further helps to clean teeth. However, if his teeth are super white and his breath still smells you might want to consult a vet to make sure that ...

Re: No more raw?

A common saying about raw food is this: a little raw goes a long way, and feeding some raw is better than feeding none at all. This is especially true if the alternative is feeding all kibble to your dog: kibble is higher in carbohydrates, which contributes to weight gain and tartar and plaque. Feed...

CBD for anxiety in my dog

Hey everybody, I have been researching CBD oil and am curious: has anyone used this to help ease anxiety in their dog? My dog, Sasha, doesn't have separation anxiety, but gets very anxious on walks due to being dog reactive, and is hyper-vigilant while looking for dogs. Although we have been doing c...

Re: Leash Reactivity: Tips & Timelines

What Lotsaquestions says - it's definitely worth having a read through their thread: http://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23639 8) I'd also add that if you've seen a big improvement in the 3 months since you've had her, you're doing fine and she'll continue to improve. When you say s...

Leash Reactivity: Tips & Timelines

Hi all, So, my biggest challenge with my sweet 1-year-old adopted dog, Sasha, has been leash reactivity towards other dogs. She is great off-leash and goes to dog parks all the time, but when she sees another dog while on a walk she gets super over-excited and sort of freaks out. We have been doing ...
