australian shepherds

Hello
I am very interested in hearing about people's experiences in owning and training australian shepherds. Some websites say that they are too strong-willed to be trained using treats etc.. What are your experiences? Thank you

Thanks Nettle and Chloe & Atlas's mom. I will have to look into having one made that fits in my mini-van. I was just worried that the dogs wouldn't want to be contained and would be whining to see out the windows.

Nettle-can you describe your custom made box for the dogs in the car?
Are they locked in it? Do they go in it willingly?

I have an old Mercury Villager mini van and when the seats are folded down it's very high up so it wouldn't be very safe. I don't think a crate would fit in there the right way either. I guess I have to find out where to buy seatbelts made for dogs.

I'm sorry for your situation but in the end, your child's safety is the most important thing. She really could get caught in the middle and she's too young to know what to do. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you.

Do you crate your dogs when they ride in the car? Do the dogs seem ok with that, or is it hard to get them in the crates? Can you buy seatbelts made for dogs? I know that they shouldn't be loose in the car with their heads out the window but they do like to see what's going on. (or should this be in...

That is interesting that they don't fight over the raw food- you'd think that it would be the opposite way.
This may seem like a dumb question but when you feed in the crate do you put the bowl all the way in the back of the crate or near the entrance?

The show is great but they show some episodes several times a week.
Can't wait to see the new American version!

I didn't buy the books by Cesar but since I don't shop on the internet I was hoping someone saw Victoria's book or Tamar Gellars book in a store.

So what does everyone think of Tamar Gellar? She seems to be very positive but I can't find her book or Victoria's books in any Illinois book stores. Can you only get them on line? Never bought anything on the internet. I have seen the occasional book by Cesar at the stores.

I'n new here and I joined to read and discuss a show I enjoyed even if I didn't like everything about it. I am a fan of Victorias from It's Me or the Dog.(although I wish Animal Planet would not show the same episodes everyday) I do agree with those who asked for no more personal attacks on each oth...

Maybe that's the key for season 2, if there is one. Let the judges help choose the events, have Victoria and other judges with training experience instead of magazine editors, and a more level playing field.
