Re: shock collar

b) The times I have problems is when my dog 'loses it'. Now, he's a lurcher, renowned for high prey drive, and when he takes off after a deer it would be lovely to be able to stop him. Yet a lurcher chasing a deer can rip his skin off on a barbed wire fence and not notice (despite the fact that lur...

Re: Lab not accepting new pup

As mentioned above the pup has only been in the home for 1 week. It does seem as though Oscar (Lab) is scared of him, he gives him a real wide birth. Oscar is not being left out by any means my sister is making every effort to make sure they both get time both together and apart. She has also just b...

Re: shock collar

I know many people have a real problem with the "shock collar" but why is that. Don't get me wrong I have never used one and I'm not condoning the use of these things but would like to understand why everyone hates them so much. As on a low setting they can hardly be felt and just vibrate ...

Lab not accepting new pup

Hi, My sister has a chocolate Labrador, she got him as a rescue when he was 18 months. He has been the only dog in the house for around 2 years. She decided to add another dog to the mix and has just got an 8 week old Cocker spaniel, he has been in home for just 1 week. Problem is the Lab (Oscar) wi...

Re: Greyhound Chasing

Thanks for the compliment Chay. Hmmm emmabeth, fantastic understanding of the breed you have hit many nails on the head and an emergency stop sounds like a great idea. To be honest I may have expected too much of her at once as whenever she sees a dog that looks like a potential chase she usually lo...

Greyhound Chasing

Hi, That topic title maybe a little misleading but this is my problem. We have 2 greyhounds, 1 an ex-racer a large male the other a smaller girl who was meant to race but broke a leg in training and never made it to track. The ex-racer boy is a nightmare on recall and so is never let off lead unless...

Jack russell cross aggression

Hi, have posted here before with a host of problems we were having with our Jack Russell cross Whippet ( Molly ). She is a rescue dog and not much is known about her beginings. When we got her she was very nervous of everything, extremely skittish, pulled like a train on the lead, had no recall, wou...

Well I agree 8 out 10 isn't bad but if the 9th or 10th time she is being recalled to stop her falling in a river or running in the path of a tractor then 8 out of 10 isn't good enough. I want her to come on command EVERY time not just when she dictates. This isn't other dog related it is always when...

Come command

Hi, I,m having a problem with Molly my Jack Russell cross with the come command. She is great on a long lead and will come first time, every time. When off the lead she comes on command 8 times out of 10, but when she gets distracted by critters she runs off and even when she is only 10 feet away fro...

With people she is great if a little too excited in her greeting. With dogs she has no idea, she has got better, there was a time she couldn't go near them, now she gets as far as contact and maybe a 10/15 second sniff then it's into growling and snarling and the inevitable fight breaks out.

HI, Yes she is walked every morning at the park, if I am there to walk her she has around a two mile walk some of the time off lead ( that's another issue I won't go into now ) if I'm not she still goes to the park but a shorter walk on lead. Then she has a walk around the streets at night. She has ...

She is 2 years old and she hasn't been to classes as she is my parents dog who are both elderly and not so great on their feet, and I am not around on a regular basis, but do try to train her the best I can when I am around. It's not the ideal situation I know but she is a quick learner and has come...

Boisterous Jack Russell Cross

Hi, Posted a couple of times here with problems with Molly my Jack Russell Cross and pleased to say things are much better ( not perfect yet, but on the way ). The problem at the moment is she has a habit of looking out of the window and if she spots a bird flying past or someone walking up the stre...
