I agree that Victoria teaching Presley a leave-it was a wonderful moment. Of course, we also know that Presley can touch a spot - not a totally easy trick to teach - so we all don't have any idea how often Travis might have practiced leave-its with Presley. I think it was utterly wasted scene and to...

If they ever do another season, I'd like to see challenges like having a fairly complicated new trick that each dog has to learn within a limited period of time, and more intelligence tests like the one where the dogs had to go around the fence to get the food (I was impressed by how quickly some o...

Tenzin is right; my idea to change the challenge to demonstrate loyalty certainly wouldn't improve the challenge nor would it show loyalty. I was brainstorming. Maybe loyalty just isn't something that is appropriate to test in dogs. A more highly intelligent dog is going to have a problem being fait...

You were completely right the second time, revolieggod. I know nothing about canine freestyle judging. I enjoy watching it, but like ice skating, find the judging inscrutable. I did rewatch those scenes with JD and Galaxy. I appreciate your helpful description of why the judges wouldn't like it. But...

I just watched it. I'm left with a really bad feeling. I am so utterly disappointed by this show. I'd like to hear from the agility people. And maybe from people familiar with hunting and herding breeds. I think that ultimately in other shows, when there was a good reason to cheer for an owner/dog p...

Nice description of using the clicker to train the llw, Missymae. Clicker training is relatively new to me. I had my first two dogs for about 4 years before we all learned the clicker. So I have done quite a bit of work using the reverse direction method for llw but have have had much faster and mor...

Actually you're making my point. And I'd love to explain. :) When proper modifications were made, the smaller dogs did fine. In the obstacle course, which is what I assume you are referring to as "agility test jumps," the hoops were set low enough for the smaller dogs. But the doggie danc...

First, I read on another board that Galaxy was injured while playing frisbee with JD far after the challenge event but before the teams met with the judges to hear their elimination decision. The scenes from next week indicate that Galaxy is probably fine as they show her participating in another ch...

Tenzin, thank you so much for this fascinating information. I would love to read more. Can you let us know from which publication/web site you pulled these great quotes? I too, have noticed fluidity in the dominance patterns of my three dogs, but never took the time to figure out why - I think I tho...

 Yes, many! Glad you started the thread! < spoiler alert - I mention last night's elimination pair > We're down to the best dog/owner pairs and all the rest of the eliminations will be so hard to watch! I think the judges, and especially Victoria, did an excellent job explaining their eliminati...

I think Bella Starlet was an adorable little dog, but I had a really different reaction. I had a very difficult time watching Beth Joy. I couldn't find anything to like about her and it is such a relief to see her gone. I felt so sorry for that dog. I wish Bella Starlet could be owned by Laurie. Yes...

 I can almost see the smoke coming out of their ears. lol! Missymay, I totally agree. I love clicker training. Believe it or not, it was Teresa (Leroy's Teresa) who employed the people who trained me how to use the clicker. They had a neat idea: after we'd "charged up" our clickers a...

Sorry if I should have started a new thread. I caught the stuff about how the Cesar reference seemed to trigger Victoria's response. I didn't think that was relevant anymore. What I thought was relevant was Victoria's disparaging comments to JD. This still bugs me. I'd like more information about wh...

But then, let's talk about JD - what was wrong??

OK, I am totally confused. I've rewatched JD and Galaxy in episode 7 and a few other episodes over and over. JD uses positive reinforcement. He rarely uses treats - BUT - Galaxy is probably also at a point where she doesn't really need them anymore. For all we know JD hasn't needed to use treats but...

Griffin - I was wrong, excellent post

Griffin, I returned from vacation and read your excellent post and now am not sure why I could have ever thought you'd missed anything except that I agreed more with revoleiggod about dog aggression and Elvis. Anyway, I think you made excellent points in this post about why the contestants were chos...
