Re: Dogs n kids

We have just taught out boys never to approach a dog without asking the owner first. You could focus on teaching the kids how to make sure they don't frighten the dog by approaching it too fast etc once they do have permission. You'd be amazed by the number of kids who tear up to my dogs with cricke...

Re: Intact or Neutered? just curious

Our dogs have been neutered/spayed as they were from a shelter who did this before releasing the animals to us. Our terrier was neutered at around 10 months of age though and he has behaviour issues do to being neutered so young. (In my opinion, anyway!) Personally I can only ever see myself rehomin...

Re: Dog friendly pubs near Oxford?

The Victoria Arms in Marston has lots of outside seating by the river which might be ideal. We take our dog there to sit outside and his ears pick up at the word 'pub' now! Not sure whether they are happy with dogs inside though but you could call them.

Re: Help with pulling & to get calm round other dogs & people

With the turn around method of training you need to turn around *before* the dog pulls so he never actually gets the opportunity to pull. It took me ages to figure this out and I also have a dog who pulled like a train. (A chow mix). No harness worked for me either. I had the most success with a fro...

Re: Loose leash walking progress

Love reading posts like this as my chow/retriever was the most *awful* puller when we first got her from the shelter. Anyone who puts in the hours of work it can take to get some dogs walking half decent gets my respect. Well done you!

Re: A chocolate and alcohol day

Lurchers are often stolen by certain types of people, and I was very worried a while back by a couple who were far too interested in his background, breeding, speed, etc. at least one good thing about having a dog like jasper, .......if stolen, you could pretty much guarantee that he'd be returned ...

Re: Pay it forward

I have a book I could send on: 'The toolbox for remodelling your problem dog' by Terry Ryan. I am willing to send to anyone within the UK but if you want it can you please PM me. I have young children and only tend to look in every couple of weeks or so and might miss a forum post.

Re: Car Anxiety:

Sounds like anxiety to me and it also sounds like quite a dangerous way to travel! You can buy seatbelts for dogs and it would be so much safer for both of you if you used one on your dog X Once you've got that sorted then you can start de-sensitising the dog to the car so it becomes less of a stres...

The van's registration is on twitter, I remember retweeting it yesterday before I saw the link on this forum. Does anyone know if there's any news?

Re: Doggy not getting it

Just my opinion but I don't like puppy pads. I think they can confuse a puppy. Do you particularly need/want to use them? It sounds as though you have access to a garden :D

Re: Help for a SAHM with three dogs and a baby!

I wish I could be more positive but I have 2 dogs and 2 children, the youngest child being 6 months old and I appreciate just how much you're going up against! I juggle things by walking the dogs twice daily (morning and night) when my husband is home to look after the boys, and then during the day ...
