Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Ok, I got her to move Mojo's crate to the floor and take the bigger crate and put it in another room. Brooks is now going to sleep on her bed on the floor and hopefully that will help Mojo. I worked on counterconditioning to noises with Mojo today and it went great until my aunt let the other dogs o...

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

That is a good idea...I will suggest that to my aunt. The two dogs in the downstairs crates are the terriers who do not pee in the house. I will see if she is open to putting Mojo in one of those crates and letting the calmer of the two terriers sleep in a bed outside the crates. Do you think having...

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Thank you Emmabeth, I am going there tomorrow, so I will try to figure out somewhere that she can put his crate. He is crated because he marks up her house...so she would not want to just let him free at night. He is the one that marks the house the most and she says he is sneaky about it.

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Thanks Jacksdad. Yes, my aunt really loves her dogs and does believe that she has been giving them the best life she possibly can for all these years. Unfortunately, she still has majorly stressed out, fearful dogs on her hands. Can you possibly give me a list of certain things that she can do (or n...

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Ok thank you, Emmabeth. I actually don't mind the behavior at all (or my aunt either as she actually rewards it), but I was just wondering if I was rewarding something that I shouldn't be rewarding by giving him attention when he was being clingy. Also, something much more concerning has come up bet...

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Hi, I have another question about Mojo. I saw him a couple days ago (not for training, but because I was over at my aunt's to help her fix her computer) and as soon as he saw me, he whined and whined and whined in his crate and once she let him out, he rubbed on me, wagging his tail furiously. Every...

Re: Question about training dog to use plastic grate potty

Wow, JudyN, putting the grass on the grate is such a good idea!! I didn't even think of that. Thank you so much. I will tell my cousin about the clicker training, too. Thank you!

Question about training dog to use plastic grate potty

My cousin has been using a fake grass "potty" for her Japanese Chin and wanted to switch over to something easier to clean so I suggested the UGO Dog potty since my dog uses it with great success. Her dog doesn't want to stand on the UGO Dog at all and will not go potty on it. This is Day ...

Thank you, Erica! Yes, it is a lot of work, but I think it's fun work. I love helping people and animals, even though it is tough sometimes. :)

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Thanks Jacksdad. I definitely have no problem doing all the "heavy lifting" if it means that those dogs get help. I've wanted to help them (and her previous sets) for years, but she hasn't listened to me at all until she saw the change in Gracie. I will try to be patient with her, too. She...

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Thank you so much Emmabeth! I definitely think the free-feeding has been causing stress between the dogs because my aunt has told me many times how there are dog fights around the food bowls even though she has the bowls spread out in different rooms. Somehow the dogs still fight over one big bowl. ...

Re: Male Dogs Peeing in the House (posted on behalf of aunt)

Hi Emmabeth, thank you for your reply. She's never tried to take all 6 on a walk before but she has taken 3 or 4 at a time. Her smallest dog, a tiny male Chihuahua, always freaks out and tries to fight (snarls, growls, lunges, barks fiercely) with the other dogs on walks. I personally think that he ...

Re: Update on Gracie the Bichon

Thank you, Sanna! I'm so happy that I found this board because Gracie has made so much progress since starting the counterconditioning. Thank you (and everyone) for being so encouraging. :)
