Re: Training Pad Regression

Hi JMIller, Is there no way you could train her to go outside? Is it unsafe/impossible for some reason? I was always taught to avoid using puppy pads in 'normal' housetraining situations, as they can confuse the pup - essentially they send the message that it is ok to go inside, which is usually the...

Re: Dog Afraid of Stairs

Hi Mila, I think some traction like carpet or something might help? As it sounds like she is happy going up/in the basement, but just not going down? Maybe she slipped and hurt/scared herself. Not sure if you have tried clicker training her already, but I really like a guy called Chirag Patel, here ...

Re: Kennel cough and exercise

Also, do you know how long the virus is airborne for? I'm just thinking of when I go home, I'll need to wash/disinfect everything she's touched that belongs to me - balls, kongs, my car, all my clothes etc...

Re: Kennel cough and exercise

Hi Nettle,

Yes that's all I'm doing, 10-15 minutes 2/3 times a day on leash. Thanks for the reply, it's helpful to know! I do think it cheers them up, like us when we have a cold, it's still nice to feel like we've been out! :)

Kennel cough and exercise

Hi everyone, I looked through the previous posts on kennel cough but couldn't quite seem to find what I was looking for. At the moment I'm looking after a friend's Golden Retriever for ten days, who has come down with the dreaded kennel cough. Vet put her on antibiotics, as the day he saw her she wa...

Re: HELP! My dog has excitement pee

Hi mjemere, I would definately look at getting a dog walker like the others suggested. She's probably having trouble holding it for such a long time, but the problem is that if she repeatedly soils her crate because she physically can't hold it, she will lose that natural inhibition not to soil her ...

Re: Shadows

Hi delladooo, Have you tried getting him to pee on command? In the beginning stages say a phrase as he pees (e.g GO PEE). Do this whenever/wherever he pees, like on your normal walks in the park etc. When he's finished peeing I would click treat him. Repeating this often will help him connect the ph...

Re: Barking

Hey delladooo :) Have you tried teaching Laufey a Quiet command? It may not stop him barking, but it may stop him a lot quicker once he's begun! It would also work for when you can't hear what he is actually barking at. This is a good tutorial, they teach the Speak command first before Quiet as they...

Re: urgant dog behaviour advice

Good luck for 2pm :) I'm sure you're aware but if you do get to adopt her, you have some work to do on making sure she sees people in a positive way, not as a forthcoming attack. Also if you do get to keep her remember you are in charge - by this I mean telling cousins/any heavy-handed family to lea...

Re: Help! Leash walking a hound

Whilst I totally agree with the all the advice you've been given I can imagine it must be a frustrating feeling to go and walk the dog and not get to the end of the block ;) So I'm thinking of ways to make what she wants to do (sniff), match what you want her to do (move forward). How about teaching...
