Re: inbetween... meeting or avoiding dogs?

Thanks Jacksdad You sould like a wonderfull dog owner :) Now that the weather is better I am spending some more time sitting with her on the balcony and on the field behind the house. Whenever she sees someone or another dog in the distance I give her treats, this way she focusses on me and it makes...

Re: inbetween... meeting or avoiding dogs?

Hi Jacksdad! Thanks for the reply! :) I will give you some more info. Amber is one year old, she is a Podenco Andaluz, she was found dumped on the street when she was only one month old. She has lived in a shelter until 3 months ago when I adopted her. During her time in the shelter she lived in a k...

inbetween... meeting or avoiding dogs?

Our one year old rescue dog is a bit shy and sometimes scared of new people and dogs. When we are on a walk, and someone (with or without a dog) is walking towards us, she doesn't know how to respond properly... she starts pulling towards the person, but when too close, she wants to run away... she ...

Re: I adopted an untrained dog?

When we adopted our one year old dog, we had exactly the same problem. Outside everything was so new and exciting, and even a bit scary. As soon as we were home she always peed in the same corner, very frustrating. What worked for us, is to walk her multiple time a day around the house, always the s...

Introducing.. the wonderfull Amber

I recently signed up at this forum, and I just realized that I never introduced myself... how rude of me! Well, my name is Laura, and I adopted a one year old Podenco mix from Spain almost 2 months ago. She is the most lovely, funny, smart and gentle dog ever. And next to all these great abilities, ...

Chopping balls off or..... chemical castration...??

I was just wondering, after watching the episode with the "humping english bulldog". In the episode the owner is adviced to chopp the balls off, who then refuses because he feels personally attacked.... as to: "it feels like you are going to chop my balls off" Anyway... I was won...

Ohyeah, something I have also done is letting her on the balcony to check out the sounds, this worked well too, unless there is another dog, and in that case she will bark untill they are gone. ;)

Re: Our 1yr old rescue dog barks at sounds... how to respond?

Hi! And thanks everyone for the tips and the nice words :) The last 2 days have been better, no barking at night and during the day only when she hears people talking. I managed to distract her... by turning on the radio and calling her to me. She immediately quiets down and when I turn the radio of...

Our 1yr old rescue dog barks at sounds... how to respond?

We don't really experience a lot of problems with her, but I don't want things to escalate.. thats why I need some help with this. Since 6 weeks ago we got a 1 yr old rescue dog from Spain, a female podenco mi...
