Tipping groomers?
Do you tip a groomer if he/she is also the owner of the business, or is that built-in to the 'fairly high' fee? My dog is getting a simple bath, nail clip, no long brush and blow-out, and extras.... opinions appreciated!

Re: How to get a dog to bark?
Hi, I appreciate you both taking time to answer. Yeah, I know Shar Pei aren't big barkers, but the several I have known and have had we all good watchdogs, barking when someone was at the door or in the yard, which is important to me, to let them know there is a dog in the house and in my area, it h...

How to get a dog used to baths?
Our Shar Pei (nearly 2 yrs old) has many allergic skin problems, is now beginning to see a dermatologist. First visit less than a week ago. Diagnosed with dermatitis, and food allergies. I have used cleansing wipes on her, now he says that is not good enough, she needs to be bathed every 2 weeks. Sh...

How to get a dog to bark?
Sounds silly, but when my Shar Pei (currently near 2 yrs old) was a pup, she barked at every passing car, person. She learned 'no bark!' too well, and now wont even bark at all :( Except rarely, in play) When someone knocks at the door, she is visibly upset. She looks to me for clues, and I strongly...

Re: Training gone to hell :(
Sorry, forgot to say she will take treats out of your hand - snapping- t(which she normally doesn't do) then focuses ALL attention (whining, lunging, etc) on the passing dog

Re: Training gone to hell :(
ARRGGH! This is the 3rd time Ive tried to post a reply! Thank you SO MUCH, Maxy24, for replying! We start giving her treats, as soon as we see another dog (usually 30-50 feet away) Give her Pro Plan Training treats, then switch to Best Buddy Bits- peanut butter flavor- when they are 15-30 feet away....

Training gone to hell :(
Hi, thank you for reading this. I have an 11 month old Chinese Shar Pei puppy, who I've had since she was 2 months old. We brought her to our local pet store (Petco) for 'puppy playtime' to socialize w/other pups and everything was fine. We went thru training classes (2 sets) when she was 4 months o...

Seroma (fluid build-up) after spay surgery
Hi everyone, I had my 7 month old Shar Pei puppy (Angel) spayed last Monday and she developed a seroma within a few days :( Took her to the vet last Thursday when I 1st saw it, she didn't do much, just told me to put hot packs on it 2-3x daily and keep her on the sedation pills. By Saturday it had g...

So-called 'positive trainer' held puppy on it's side
:( Is this ever acceptable? We brought our 3 month old puppy to 'puppy playtime' and it was playing with a older puppy, having fun. Both were getting just a little rougher, but no growling, lunging or snapping. The trainer grabbed my pup, pulled her harness, my pup was trying to get away, so she nip...

Re: Puppy drawing blood when playing, help please!
Thanks so much for answering! I really do appreciate it :) It helped a lot... I was feeling like I was doing something terribly wrong, and it's reassuring to hear others have been in the same (painful) situation. I have had puppies before, but never one who loves to bite and sink her teeth in the wa...

Puppy drawing blood when playing, help please!
My 11 week old Shar Pei puppy gets so carried away when playing that she draws blood often :( It has gotten much worse this past week or so. When she bites, I have 'yelped' and turned away, but that gets her even more excited.... I've also tried holding still, saying 'uh-uh' or no, leaving the room,...
