Re: Loose Lead walking
R and Gus started loose leash training yesterday! I'd been working with Gus intensively for a few days but this was R's first time. We used Mattie's method from the first post on this thread and it still works! R got the gist of it but his "turn and walk the other direction" time was slow;...

This tale ended well though.

Re: I want to buy Mountain Cur
Careful with that website. The person writing the info is a very "dog needs owner to be a pack leader" type.

Fur growing in
It looks like Gus' fur may be growing in between his hind legs, from when he got neutered. He's licking that area a lot. Is this risking the hair not growing in? Is there anything I can do to lessen the discomfort? I imagine it must be itching him like crazy.

Re: Hello from a old friend
Thank you Nettle!
It is so strange for me to come here and not need to ask advice on any issues. I only have questions on normal puppy development. What a relief!
I'm glad these boards are still here. Good people, you are.

Re: GSD or Aussie?
Thanks. His feet don't look unusually big right now. I've had so many "experts" on the street tell us "Look at his paws! He's going to be huge!" and also "Look at his paws! He won't get much bigger." But here's a development! His mom and two more littermates have...

Re: GSD or Aussie?
Hi Nettle, I'm not sure I know what you mean by "does he fit his feet". I weighed him last night and he's 16.8 lbs (7.62 kg). It doesn't seem like he's going to be very big. I guess we'll find out in the coming months! I'm so proud that he seems really excited to meet dogs. He plays super ...

Re: Hello from a old friend
Thanks, Em, for the welcome and especially for the tip on positive association. Right now he goes nuts over ham, as L was making a casserole for a school function the other day and he flipped out over the smell and taste. I'm afraid he likes it to the point of distraction though so we're gonna have ...

Re: GSD or Aussie?
Thanks for the insight, Nettle, as always. Unfortunately we don't know anything about his parentage. The rescue was just guessing as they were found in a different shelter before they took him in to get fostered. We'll see how he develops indeed! It's anyone's guess at this point! Thank you everyone!

GSD or Aussie?
The profile from the rescue says that Gus is an Australian Shepard mixed with possibly Dachshund (his littermate has short legs). I asked if they might think he's a GSD but was told Aussies are more common in that area. I'm very curious about what type of dog we have on our hands! I don't think he's...

Puppy teeth and food adjustment question
Hi all, Noobs here. I posted an update here on my family's current situation: https://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=23552#p156596 I have two questions now: At approx 16 weeks old, when can baby teeth be expected to fall out? My previous dog came to us at around 8 months old so I'm no...

Re: Hello from a old friend
Thank you, Fundog and Suzette. I'm starting to think he has some type of bird dog in him. He really perks up and zones in on birds on our walks, but nothing else.

Re: Hello from a old friend
Hi Noobs :D I remember seeing you around, I think we overlapped by a few months. Good to see you back again. Your new addition is adorable! With the tugging on the rope toy, is it his teeth you're worried about, or his neck muscles, rather than whether it's good for him behaviourally? I'm just worr...
