Re: Golden retriever problems!!!
Hi and welcome to the forum. Firstly for the leash walking, refer to this thread - it's a long one, but just read the first post so you can get an idea of how to train him to walk nicely on leash. http://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=858 Keep in mind that you must be consistent. And ...

Ear cleaning
Murphy's right ear gets waxy faster than his left ear. If anyone recalls, our last vet visit ended when Murphy wouldn't let her touch his ears. She worked her way from back to front with shots and all, so by the time she got to the front he was quite stressed and let us know he was at his threshold ...

Re: Dog scared of new people .. at a loss :(
I do have a question though, how come sometimes she runs up to strangers wagging her tail in the park/field for example and sniffs them then the second they pay her any attention whether that be looking at her with an 'aww' or bending down to offer a hand she either barks and runs off or just runs ...

Aw that's awful! I can't believe the staff wouldn't listen to you.
Try this to gain her trust back:

It'll take a while but if you practice every day before she even needs a clipping again, it may help. Best of luck.

Re: Loose Lead Walking/Clicker vs. Prong Collar
I hate to say this, but the problem is your husband not being consistent and not following the training. No matter how much LLW training you do, if you let the dog pull once, you're back at square one. If you use an extending lead, it feels to the dog like he's pulling and you're allowing it, so aga...

Re: New BAT theory
Thank you for joining the conversation. I saw your videos long before the discussion started here and used the method as I understood it on my fearful dog. I can't speak to its effectiveness on our situation with any kind of certainty as of yet but the principles seem sound. I do use a variety of me...

Re: backing away
Let me tell you from experience: Let your dog back away. In fact, now that you know by his more subtle signals that he doesn't like it, do this - someone approaches him for a pet, before he gets a chance to back away, step in front of him and say "Sorry, he's not good with people touching him.&...

Re: Knocked 3 year old down
Sorry to disagree, Dabble, but if a dog is not playing, you would definitely know. If he hadn't been playing, there would be a lot more damage to the child than just getting nipped and growled at.
Best of luck to the OP. Hang in there, you'll get tons of support and help here.

Re: Training an ex-show champ who was dominance trained
Thanks, Nettle. I definitely want to encourage the new owner not to try to make doggie friends and just do a lot of avoiding until the dog has learned to trust my friend and learns to focus on him when outside. I will suggest Orijen, thank you. And yes, I'm sure that he and his father actually fough...

Training an ex-show champ who was dominance trained
A friend of mine adopted a Welsh Terrier last week, 4-year-old male who was neutered a month ago. He is apparently a show champ and has sired two litters. He lived in a kennel that lodged dozens of show champs (so their website says). The breeder/handler put him up for adoption because he owned the ...

Thank you for this! I don't have need for such an article personally but I do love knowing this stuff.
