Crate training older dog

Hello, I am currently living in Bangladesh with my rescued street dog. My contract is ending in June, and Sadie will be coming with me to my next destination. She will need to fly in a crate. Up until now, I have not had a crate for her because they are not sold anywhere in Bangladesh. I got one ove...

Re: Tail chasing compulsion?

Addendum- I have read online that tail chasing can be the result of not enough exercise. Unfortunately, given where I live, there's not really a place where I can just let her out and run round totally free. However, between my dog walker and I, she gets walked 2.5 hours a day minimum, usually close...

Tail chasing compulsion?

Hi all, Sadie has started a new behaviour that I find a bit bizarre. To review, Sadie has had issues with food guarding as well as growling/snapping hen she is woken up. We've done well with the biting- no bites for a few months now. However, she has started doing something odd whenever she is asked...

Re: Guarding person as resource- possible??

Right, so how can I make her more comfortable when other dogs are around? It's not a big issue right now, but next June my job contract in Bangladesh is over, so I will be moving in with my parents for a month or two. They have a very affectionate dog, and I can see there being potential problems! I...

Re: Guarding person as resource- possible??

How...flattering? Ha! Is it something that needs to be worked on in training, or managed? Like I said she doesn't care at all if people are around...apparently just dogs!!

Guarding person as resource- possible??

Hi all, The good news is Sadie has a doggy friend(sort of)!! A close friend of mine adopted a dog the same time I adopted Sadie and they are about the same age. Sadie doesn't enjoy playing too much, but the dog walker does take the two of them on walks together and as long as the other dog (Roxy) do...

Re: Fear of thunder- hours after storm??

Thank you! She seemed a bit better this morning. Unfortunately it is monsoon season here in Bangladesh, so thunderstorms are going to be quite a common occurrence. Is it possible that she will become desensitized to them if they happen often? My plan is if I am home during a storm to play with her o...

Re: Fear of thunder- hours after storm??

Addendum! My dog walker just walked her for about 10 minutes, brought her back in and gave her some food...and when he didn't back away fast enough, she growled. It was her normal food, nothing high value (at least, it's not usually). She didn't snap or snarl or bite, which is good, but is it possib...

Fear of thunder- hours after storm??

Hi all, Sadie and I had an interesting walk today...there was a thunderstorm at about 9:30 am. I was at work, so Sadie was home alone. It was a pretty bad one. She is scared of storms. I got home at 5 (the dog walker had been in twice- once at noon and once at 3:00). I took her for a walk and she wa...

Re: Eye drops- please help!

I'll try that then...I'm just concerned that way not enough will get in her eye...although I'm not sure how much I managed to get in this morning so it probably won't be much different!

Re: Eye drops- please help!

It's odd, because she is fine with me wiping her eye with a cloth (I had been doing that to get the gunk off of her eye- gross!) I wonder if I put the eye drops on the cloth and wipe it, some of the drops would get in the eye? It just seems that when she sees the little bottle coming towards her she...

Re: Eye drops- please help!

I should mention that I started with the touch training- I touch her and give her a treat. She doesn't like being touched anywhere but her head and neck (I think maybe being touched where she can't see the hand makes her nervous?) so we've started that, but obviously the eye drops would be jumping a...

Eye drops- please help!

Hi, Not sure if this belongs in the health forum, but I think it's more a training issue. Sadie has an eye infection (she is so prone to skin infections as well...I'm hoping it's the tropical climate and not her!). Anyway, she has to have eye drops twice a day for five days. Oh Lordy. I did it this ...

Hehe...Judy I've read through some of your early posts and they do seem eerily familiar...perhaps distant cousins? They're both quite special, aren't they??

Snapping after awakened-management or training?

Hello again, Well, after posting in success stories I got a little growl and a snap from Sadie (I'm just not going to post successes anymore- she seems to "backtrack" immediately after I do!) This time it was because I accidentally nudged her while she was sleeping. I fell asleep on the co...
