Muddy Mess
Hello: After strenuous exercise, my 3-year-old lab mix finds any water anywhere in which to roll, no matter how muddy or putrid it may be. How do I begin to train her to stop doing this? I don't have a clue. Thanks.

Dog Pulling Fix
Hello: If your dog's pulling isn't controlled by all those special harnesses or stopping/walking training, I came across a solution during my hike this AM. I use a hiking stick about hip height. The stick is thin and lightweight. After leashing my dog with a leash less than the length of the stick, ...

Re: Dog attack/how do I protect my dog?
Dear Jacksdad: Thanks so much for sharing those great photos of your attack cats! LOL. They were great! I needed a good laugh today. Dear wvvduip1: Yikes. I very much appreciate your posting my state's information. It was very kind of you to do that. Now I know what happened. My local police chief i...

Re: Dog attack/how do I protect my dog?
Dear wvvduip1: Unfortunately, if you file a complaint with the police as I did (I live in Maine USA), your insistence on police taking action against the owner will have your local police chief call you and threaten you with all kinds of things happening as a result of your complaint, i.e., he'll ha...

Re: Dog attack/how do I protect my dog?
Thanks, Emmabeth. This was the second time in three weeks my dog has been attacked by some really dangerous dogs. These situations drive me nuts. The owners KNOW their dogs are dog aggressive, but they rationalize that by using a trail "less used," it's OK, it's OK to let them off-leash. Y...

Dog attack/how do I protect my dog?
Folks: I'd appreciate any advise for protecting my dog when it is about to be attacked. I want to specifically know what I should do from the time I recognize the dog WILL attack to BEFORE it reaches my dog. I'm not referring to two dogs already engaged in fight. This is a dog-on-dog aggression situ...

Re: Dog Attack Advice Needed
This is what upset me. I've been at this park for five years. Sure, dogs get into disagreements. Even some snarl now and then. But, the alterctions are minor. The reason that I reacted to this fight was this dog was dog aggressive within nanoseconds of greeting my dog. It was over 100 lbs. It was cl...

Re: Dog Attack Advice Needed
Folks: You will not believe what has happened in this dog attack incident. It appears that my local jocal police, with which I filed my complaint, never took any steps to view the dog afterward. Wouldn't you assume that when a dog bite is reported, it might be prudent for authorities to visit the do...

Re: Dog Attack Advice Needed
I know that the owners of this dog are wealthy. And, after the incident, I happened to speak with another park visitor, and she said that she and her fellow park patrons knew this woman well, and her rottweiler has been known to attack other dogs. Apparently, those attacks had not been reported to t...

Dog Attack Advice Needed
Folks: I'd appreciate good advice on how to handle this dog attack situation in the best interests of the attacking dog (rottweiler), a dog which seemingly has not received adequate training. I'll tell you why--I'm fearful that the owner's stupidity in this matter may get the dog euthanized. Despite...

Re: Diet related reasons for nails breaking
I am feeding her BRAVO wet (containing raw meats/veggies/fruits/no grains) and WELLNESS dry (no grains). I'm trying to see the vet today. I've been trying to find illustrations of a dog's nail anatomy--but, could not find one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't I remember that the nail consists of a...

Diet related reasons for nails breaking
Hello: For the second time in a few weeks, my dog's nail has split, this time--higher than halfway. I tend to her nail clipping every two weeks, this is not a nail being too long issue. I'm now wondering what my dog is lacking in her diet that is making her nails do this. Does anyone have any sugges...

Re: Exercise Advice
Dear Horace's Mom: Your idea on a quiet time/place also makes sense. As I think back on my training, my dog seems more successful for those cues starting from a specific place. Since she also has impulse control problems, her focus on what she wants to do is sometimes so intense, she just loses ever...
