Re: Toy Obsession/Aggression

Question: it's the 'squeakiness' itself that triggers the guarding behaviour? If you punctured the toy so it doesn't squeak would he guard it or not? Personally I don't have a single squeaky toy, the noise drives me nuts- and it does trigger quite intense prey behaviour/ over-arousal in many dogs. Y...

Re: Re-Training the "Sit" Command

Sounds like you guys are making great progress, well done I'm so happy for you :D My initial thought is that either she doesn't fully understand the cue, or she is reluctant because she associates the cue with something unpleasant? Unless she has hip problems or an injury that makes sitting uncomfor...

Re: Four days in the life of a reactive dog

Great job delladoo :D
And no, I really think until you've had a reactive dog you'll never really understand (sadly I've seen that even applies to some dog trainers)..

Way to go Erica :D Hope Jasper's on the mend soon Judy! We are off on our annual road trip to Norway on Tuesday. Will be visiting family and friends, and spend a week at our cabin in the mountains. I'm very interested to see how P copes this year, he did really well last year but he found it quite s...

Re: Anxiety around Strangers

I'm with Judy. Treats from you immediately the moment she spots the stranger ;) (And if you're ever in a situation where you think it's appropriate for the person to treat her, have them to toss the treat behind her; so she doesn't have to get closer than she's comfortable with). You want her to fee...

Re: Regaining puppy's trust

Really pleased for you and Gypsy, WELL DONE awesome job :D It's not really 'doing it wrong'- one of the hardest things I find is to step back, when things are going well you do want to push for just one more.. And learning to adapt the 'recipe' to each individual dog. Every dog is different, every d...

Re: Regaining puppy's trust

I've been working on the positive interrupter for a few days, and am having only limited success with it. If Gypsy is paying attention to me, she'll immediately make eye contact, and I'll click and treat. But she's now gotten into a habit of not looking at me at all, or only doing it after 15-30 se...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

I often walk Precious at Knebworth House estate (basically a grand old English country house with woodland, fields and gardens) because for some strange reason not a lot of people walk dogs there, and also all dogs must be on lead so I don't have to worry about off lead dogs running up to us. They o...

Re: Regaining puppy's trust

Right: Hand touch/ targeting https://youtu.be/RWSJVwZybwo And yes, get better treats :D 'Real' stuff like roast chicken, frankfurters, cheese, dried liver beats shop bought stuff hands down! Honestly, your instincts are great. Trust your gut. For petting- of course it's ok when she comes to you :) y...
