Re: Need help training previously abused dog.

Sorry, I should have left the rest of my story out, because it isn't helpful or relevant in this thread. In the last paragraph I tried to say that you should not push your dog like I did because your dog may be way more sensitive than mine and that is not a good way to do it anyways. And, people mig...

Re: Need help training previously abused dog.

What I think... If your dog is so stressed in the park/store/any place that he doesn't eat treats (if he eats them at home) you should work on that first. When you can start training encounters with other dogs, find out, if there are any volunteers to help you with their dogs. Do you see someone wal...

Re: Spencer shutting a door

Alva can also close doors Video: http://youtu.be/FL5D3Qg6Teg I don't like her mood on the video, she was stressed because I was nervous to have it recorded and she had many failed attempts beforehand. She also smelled my frustration in the air. It isn't seen but she gets a treat when I hit stop reco...

Re: Smooth fox terrier - sterilising

Has your ***** had her first season yet? It should be coming. If she was my dog I might let her to be operated when she is a year old. We don't though have free-roaming males behind every corner here. And the very few I've met have been easy to shake off. Only one of our bitches has been sterilized ...

Re: Uh oh I'm in trouble!

This is the reason why I want to teach my dog to find lost items. Just haven't practiced enough so now I have to look after my keys and other little stuff extra carefully anyways. I once dropped a leash on the training field and couldn't find it. But for my luck there was also a labrador practicing....

Re: What commands would you teach a puppy first?

One way for teaching down command would be that you have all the time treats in your instant access and when you see that your dog is lying down you reward. The dog should start lying down more often for rewards and then you can connect it with a command. Down may also be a bit scary command for som...

Re: Avatars and editing posts...

Okay, so I am going to be the one who asks a dumb question... I really wish to have a pic of my pooches on my profile, but I cannot seem to figure out how to place it as my avatar? I go into 'edit my avatar', and it has a blank spot where the picture will show, but I am not able to upload a pic any...

ListYour Most Useful (or Otherwise Interesting) Commands

So, list your 10 most useful commands or cues or commands you use most often. You can also make other kind of lists like most difficult commands/cues to teach for your dogs. Alva's 10 most common taught behaviors in everyday situations (= when not trick training) recall * (**) sit ** down + stay* br...

Re: Clicker

Yes, I can recommend clicker training. Just do your research so that you can take full advantage of it.

I could also recommend looking for user called Kikopup on Youtube. She posts video tutorials about training different tricks, basic obedience and everyday behaviors like walking on leash.
