Re: Can I rant for a second?
Thanks for responding Nettle! I'm 24 and I just had to move back with my mom because of circumstances in my life after college. I know while I'm here it's her choice but it doesn't really help my frustration since I've really been the only one training Kipper since we got him and I just have a reall...

Can I rant for a second?
Sorry, I just wanted to talk to some people about this but remember our new border collie/Aussie/heeled mix Kipper? Well we've been in touch with the people who bred him and recently a dilemma came up where one of Kipper's brothers was being returned because they found out he's deaf. The breeders ha...

Re: New Puppy
Thank you Nettle. I wasn't really concerned with the growling, it seemed she had bit him pretty hard as he screamed for a little bit afterwards. Yumie is a notorious water guarder but we've been working on it with our Pomeranian and if I'm around and she sees him drinking she'll stop and stare at me...

Re: New Puppy
Uh oh, we had our first incident. The husky has been very inquisitive towards the puppy since he arrived and she is very vocal in play and kind of rough but has never shown any aggression towards any dog. Tonight I was working with the husky in my room and I gave her the treat. The puppy then came i...

Re: New Puppy
Oh by the way, what would you guys suggest for leash training? He hates the leash right now. Immediately when you put it on him he rolls on his back and chews it. We put a tiny cat leash on him so it's not heavy. I want to make sure he walks very well on leash as my mom wants to be able to walk him ...

Re: New Puppy
Thank you all for your responses! I showed my mom Dunbar's book. She said she couldn't keep reading it because it was too nagative and made her feel like we've already failed in raising the puppy because he's already been in our home for a week and had accidents in the house several times. She asked...

Re: New Puppy
Thank you Erica! :) I'll definitely check that out! I hope we can mold him to be a great dog. I hear both wonderful and horrible stories about herding breeds as pets. I've always wanted a border collie when I was younger because I loved their intelligence and train ability. I certainly was surprised...

Re: New Puppy
I know! He actually has his own tiny bed but he stole our husky's bed while she was out.

Re: New Puppy
Oh I know right? Haha I think she is more asking me to make her a plan she can follow to get her those results. She's asking me because I've done a bunch of research a few years back on dog training and I was very passionate about it before I went to college. I just have never had any experiences wi...

New Puppy
Hello everyone! I've posted here before but I wouldn't really call myself a regular... My mom just brought home a new puppy (border collie, Australian shepherd, heeler mix with both parents working cattle dogs) he's 6 weeks old as of Sunday and he's already trying to herd our 11 year old Pomeranian....

Re: Taking my dog to work
Thank you so much for your insight! I've thought of that myself.. I guess I've just been trying to find a good alternative to her being in her kennel all day because it really does make me sad. I take her on walks in the morning as often as possible and to the park to run on my day off. I know of ot...

Re: Taking my dog to work
On average, it'll only take 10-15 minutes to clean a tub and generally I test water chemistry, add chemicals, rinse filters, and scrub the sides. Sometimes I have to empty and refill tubs and that will usually take an hour of mostly just sitting and waiting.

Re: Taking my dog to work
Elisa- Thank you so much for your response! I of course wouldn't let her loose without paying attention to her, but I would like her to stay near me on or off leash so that I don't have to worry so much about her pulling or trying to get away while I'm trying to clean hot tubs. I'd also like to be a...

Taking my dog to work
Hello everyone! Wow, it's been a long while since I've been on here. I've been off to college and really haven't had time for any training, but now I'm out and I'm currently servicing hot tubs in beautiful Lake Tahoe (family business  ). Anyways, it's very nice up here but it gets lonely somet...

Re: He Only Wants To Play
I agree, it is a bit wordy, but it was meant to be more of a scientific review paper as opposed to a succinct point. If you look, their articles are based on a long-term study and multiple other peer-reviewed articles. There are a few things I don't exactly agree with in the article as well, but I l...
