Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

He came to teach you and you took up the lessons. Where that little fellow took you! Changed your life in so many ways - those lessons spill over into many aspects of life, I think.

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

We do so miss them when they leave us. After a while we can put the memories in a place that doesn't hurt so much when we visit them. It's so hard, and we are all right there with you and for you.

Still a serious don't-mess-with-my-family dog, even if he is a big squashy soppy woofer.

Re: Excellent lurcher article

It makes me smile when people put up Youtubes training herding breeds using toys and play, as if all dogs can be trained that way. A saluki or saluki lurcher would just look scathingly at you and walk away.
But they are lovely dogs as long as we know what makes them tick.

Re: 'Good' vs 'bad' dogs

Also - when people argue, it is often because they want the other person to think they way they do. But really, it doesn't usually mean one person is right therefore the other is wrong, simply that we come to each situation with a different skills set and background of experiences. Same with dogs - ...

I am so, so sorry to hear about Delta. He was such a dude. You must be hurting so much.
Be as kind to yourself as you would be to another.

Pup is lucky to have you to look after. The next stage of learning is waiting in the wings for you.

Re: An unpleasant incident

Well said. I just want to make sure that it's understood by OP that when I say 'get between and push your dog away' you don't forget the second bit. Use your legs to push your dog sideways away from conflict and as far as you need to.

Re: Overly amorous pup.......HELP!!

Thank you for your feedback :) . Neutering as you say is controversial, and you will get many opinions. Around 2 years old is best in my opinion, because then the growth plates will have capped off and hormones will have settled. If you don't want to neuter him at all, you don't have to. Most entire ...

Re: An unpleasant incident

Poor you! Don't beat yourself up about this - it seems perfectly normal behaviour as in your adult dog protecting her housemate who is sill young, Alfie being a terrier, and also protecting his "patch" and muscling in on a teenager who is about to get too big for his boots, and said teen do...

Re: Overly amorous pup.......HELP!!

He's just entering adolescence and he's just found out it isn't for stirring his tea with. Neutering now would fix him in this state and he would become a nuisance to other dogs all his life. So relax! 8) It's a phase and it WILL pass. But he has to go through it. I always recommend providing a huge...

Re: Over-excitement around feeding times

Hi Pedro, and welcome :) You have a Rescue. You don't know if he has gone short of food in the past, and he doesn't know if every meal is his last. He may have been teased in the past over food. He may have been fed from the table during human mealtimes. So - take the pressure off both of you. Prepa...

An unexpected benefit from coronavirus is that the people who normally let their dogs charge at me and mine are now keeping their distance.
