Re: Problems unraveling

Would leaving paper towel rolls around and giving her a treat every time she finds one be a good idea or no? If you want to do this with the aim to teach her the difference between cardboard tubes and your valuables then no it won't work. Anything within reach has chewing rights. Puppy proofing mea...

Re: Pay it forward

One cool thing I really like is how some people donate leashes or collars and other items their dogs either outgrew or just don't need anymore to legit rescues and shelters. I had spare items donated to me after she chewed her harnesses and leashes. It's the same with children, once babies outgrow s...

Re: Problems unraveling

Hi wilkie! I see what your saying it is annoying but sophie doesnt no it was valuable to you, i give pepper a box treat everyday, this stops her from finding something to chew (mostly the staircase!) when she is bored with nothing to entertain her. Yesterday she also shredded 2 magazines but it was...

Re: Dog vomiting

Is it possible that she's swaalloqed something shouldn't? There are a few bushes with inedible berries, but it could've been anything. She eats grass, worms, she ate dog poop (that wasn't even hers), cat poop, rabbit poop, flowers and other plants. It could've been anything. If she's eaten somethin...

Re: Problems unraveling

Giving cardboard to dogs should've came with a warning label because I walked into the room and found my DVD case ripped to pieces   . Sophie was "sleeping" (she likes to pretend to be sleeping when you notice her) and as soon as I picked up the chewed box, she hid under the b...

Re: Problems unraveling

Taste of the Wild is a good kibble. For now, if you can't predict when she will go nuts on you, do as Judy suggested and stay near the door, then you can instantly go inside and she will hopefully soon get the idea. Let her wear off some of her energy with cardboard boxes and things stuffed with tr...

Re: Dog vomiting

Just wondering, is she hungry? If she is, she may eat too quickly, resulting in her regurgitating everything... Try feeding many but tiny meals and see if it helps if she starts vomiting again? She doesn't eat too fast, but she doesn't eat one piece at a time either. She takes her time and also tak...

Re: Problems unraveling

JudyN, in the US less expensive meats often have "vegetable broth" added. The only way to get meat that is just meat is to go higher quality and more expensive. Especially where chicken is concerned and normally less expensive cuts of beef and pork. (We won't go into the pink slime in the...

Re: Problems unraveling

We used to feed our dogs Purina - ~4 cups a day. On Taste of the Wild, they eat less than 2 cups a day. :) For us it worked out to around the same price per meal. Sophie eats 2 times a day and eats a little over a cup. She was at least 40-44lbs when she got home, but because she has such a big dip ...

Re: Problems unraveling

Like I said, it takes time. Even running around the garden with your jacket is boring if you just walk off indoors and shut the door behind you. If she pulls clothes off you, make sure they're firmly fastened and fold your arms firmly. And wear something really tatty (raid charity shops?) that you ...

Re: Problems unraveling

OK, if she doesn't do this on walks then you should be able to work out ways of managing it in the yard - staying by the door, next to the fence so you can turn away, blocking with something, whatever. You have to be one step ahead of her, and remain calm at all costs. Honestly, my arms used to be ...

Re: Dog vomiting

I can understand how it's really worrying to see a dog sick like that. Oreo just recovered from a 3-week-long bout of vomiting and diarrhoea. It was painful for me to see her feel sick and lose weight - she lost 0.5kg off her 5.5kg frame, really quite a bit! What you worry about dogs vomiting lots ...

Re: Problems unraveling

Is this a problem mostly in the yard, or on walks too? In the yard, I would play games with her that mean you can stay close to the house - if she'll bring a ball back, stand by the door to throw it. If she won't, arm yourself with several balls! Then when she does bite, you can quickly go inside f...

Re: Problems unraveling

Sophie never bit all of the times I visited her at the shelter and took her out to the yard there. She showed signs of seperation anxiety, but nothing else. Once she entered a home envioronment she became My Dog From Hell. That needs to be a new show since they have My Cat From Hell. I asked many qu...
