Re: Raymond, bloodtracking

Aah the elusive Norwegian Flying Deer, I've not heard of those before  Barrel search is basically the big brother of the cup game ;) we use anything from 4 to around 20 barrels (too big for the dog to knock over easily) and hide an article under one of them, then send the dog to find it. Becaus...

Re: Raymond, bloodtracking

I love to see a dog absorbed in his work, and those photos really show it in Raymond... OK, it's not so great watching Jasper take off after a deer knowing that he's bound to come back with a few war wounds and be stiff and creaky the next day, but it's that utter absorption - it's like a whole new...

Tnx, they are taken by my neighbor who has dogs herself, and is my training partner, always helps to have a photographer who understands the motive :D

Re: Raymond, bloodtracking

It's a wonderful activity for a dog :) our deerstalkers are strongly encouraged to train a dog for this too. Some like a little dog that can sit up in a high seat, but that would be unsuitable for Raymond! As an activity, a lot of pet dogs would feel so fulfilled by being allowed to track lik...

Re: Raymond, bloodtracking

Oh he is gorgeous! Love the pic of him jumping, that's one focused doggie  and I'm totally craving 'vaffel med brunost' right now.. ;) Edited to add: missed your question there- I am hoping to do more tracking/ searching with Precious. We are only doing very basic stuff like barrel searches at...

Don't know what this sport is called in english, don't know if it exist outside Scandinavia actually, but I know that dogs are used for tracking wounded game all over the world:) We call it bloodtracking. The dog is supposed to follow a track/trail of blood from an animal, and then find the animal i...

Front-attached harnesses and multiple dogs

I wonder if any of you have tried front-attached harnesses when walking more than one dog, and what your experience is? I have six dogs, 3xRottweiler, 2xStaffordshire bull terrier and 1 Brussel Griffon, and the Brussel Griffon pulls my arms out  (not). They are really nice dogs and walks nice o...

Re: How to help my dog gain weight?

The way you describe your dog's weight, seems perfect. One are supposed to feel their ribs quite easily, and also see the countour of the ribcage. But as you said, she has lost some muscles, and therefor you can see some of her spine, but to cover that she needs to regain her muscles and not fat. I ...

Re: The Staffie Song...

yes, a show staffie usually looks the same all over, but my point was that irresponsible breeders/breeders that breed for money, will use dogs that don't look according to the breed-standard, so therefor one get purebred staffies in every shape and sizes, so the rescue operation in this may not try ...

Re: The Staffie Song...

Brought a tear to my eye.. lovely dogs, but not for everyone.. and so much irresponsible breeding.. that's why they look so different.. staffies come in all shapes and sizes, eventhoug they are purebreed.. My to lovely staffies (gotten as adults) http://i934.photobucket.com/albums/ad190/hundetrening...

Re: head halter v. basket muzzle

A friend of mine, were taking her dog with her on holiday to her home country, there every dog over 20 inch. has to wear a muzzle. She used the leather basket ones, they are soft, and it was no problems feeding the dogs treats. I have also seen people using head halter with basket muzzles. With the ...
