Re: The ladydog and being on heat

An interesting observation (it happened after the last season too, but I can't be sure it was at the exact same time as I really didn't make a note of it). We're about 3 months past the start of her season and she's gone in a "humpy" phase where she humps a toy a few times a day. It's not...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

I seem to have it relatively easy, partly because Ella never stands and flags she pretty much doesn't want anyone sniffing around her at any time during her cycle, partly because Ted is very well behaved and only thinks about pestering her when she's fertile and also because they're tiny so I can af...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

Hi, me again! I keep a diary of what happens for my own reference, I'm posting it in here in case its useful to anyone. Ella's (long coated chihuahua aged just over 26 months) third season - diary Background - Ted (long coated chihuahua aged 4.5) is not a stud dog but is entire and has a reasonable ...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

Life's too short to worry about a dog humping a cuddly toy  I've been thinking a bit more about the whole situation. During and after her season (prior to the humpy phase) she tends to be quieter, doesn't want to play with Ted, doesn't want to chase crows (one of her fave things to do on a walk...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

I don't know!    I never thought that would happen! I've just done a bit of detective work and it was around the same sort of timing after her first season that she went "humpy". So its clearly a hormone thing but it sounds like the message to her brain is a bit confu...

Re: Delta Grooming Process

(sigh deeply about how long his nails look without the fluff. wonder if any other dog keeps long nails even when trimmed twice a week.) Sunday at our place is nail day, I do them every Sunday and every week I'm surprised how much they've grown. Ella's were slightly worse when in season as she was o...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

Good diary, Clare - you will find that a helpful reference for the future, as will anyone who reads this to learn more about the realities of ladydogs on heat. Thank you :-) I'm so proud of Ted's behaviour, although obviously he takes some managing, it is very easy now I know what I'm doing. It cle...

Re: The ladydog and being on heat

Hello everyone, sorry I've been quiet (errrr silent  ). Anyway, Ella is on day 6 of her second heat. She went 9 months in-between, not the 12 months I'd hoped for, but not bad. I'm keeping a diary of what's going on and I'll just post it all into this thread once she's done in case it's helpful...

Re: Vent!

IME travelling across UK is far worse than the USA which at least has more comfort stops (unless closed!). Over here you can go untold miles without a whisper of a comfort stop and it is so stressful I no longer cover long distances. "Dog-friendly" also has a number of interpretations. Th...

What better way to find out more about her than see Victoria help her with the litter mate fighting, unhousetrained chihuahuas *sigh*

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

I took Ted out on his own this afternoon and did Ted stuff so he had a great time. I even just let him roll in something that was clearly delightfully stinky (nothing to see on the ground but Ted's face told me it was an EXCELLENT stink) because well, why not, when I see joy on his face like that ha...

Handlers may bring their own dog(s), but dogs who will be participating should be safe and comfortable working with unfamiliar people. The dog does not need to particularly well trained, but must be safe around other dogs and when handled with respect, kindness but some degree of confusion & cl...
