Re: Gorgeous greyhound adoption video
Can you go straight to a trainer, Suzette? I don't know what the situation is where you live, but in UK you get a much better greyhound if you go straight to a trainer. A lot of young greyhounds are discarded because they won't chase, which is ideal for you. As with any other profession, you get go...

Re: Rebuilding relationship with my dog.
Hi b_n_p03 I am not a trainer so no actual advice, but just reading through your last post I just wonder if you are getting frustrated with your Beagle because you see him as stubborn? Sorry I can`t do quotes  but you mention turning your back and waiting for him to cave in and come your way. ...

Re: Guilt
Well Judy I can tell you my dogs have absolutely no notion of guilt at all!! prehaps its a sighthound thing  If I catch them in the act they are more than likely to be upset because they would like to finish it off than feel upset that I am displeased. I`ve never really thought if that is a goo...

Re: Loose leash walking not going very well
Just offering a bit of support to say this method of LLW really does work! I don`t use a clicker as such just click with my tongue but my 8mth pup has really got it with this method. He, like yours was just sitting down looking confused at me with the about turn method and `making like a tree` would...

Re: Special Need Dogs
My advice would be take it slow. Don`t expect anything but the unexpected :D Don`t judge the dogs behaviour by your other dogs behaviour. Read the dogs body language and respect it. Be very very patient, don`t see problems everywhere when none exist or are not important. Have your house prepared lik...

Re: Started obedience class but don't agree with instructor
Personally I would walk away from this class, grimace about losing the money but chalk it up as a lesson learnt. You say you are working hard at training so instructor doesn`t need to handle him and he is very good at the park etc even with distractions so I would say you are doing great without thi...

Re: Favourite Dog Breed
Sighthounds are my `thing` can`t imagine not owning one type or another. My preference is for smooth haired lurchers but wouldn`t reject a hairy :D. I think the same as you JudyN love saluki`s but not sure I could live with one, I don`t know why I think that really seeing as I have Podencos (think I...

Mine all hate going out in the rain, first thing in the morning and they can hear the rain they don`t budge off their beds, I stand jangling leads telling them what yummy treats they will be getting! Nothing, heads tucked under tails desperatly trying to be invisisble. :) If I do get them out, one w...

Re: I need help motivating my dog!
I would totally echo what Nettle has said. I understand exactly where you are coming from, I too have a a dog that is completely uninterested in toys, kongs ripping or shredding paper, finding food hidden in various objects, you name it I`ve tried it! As for training I just about got sit, and she un...

Aren`t human kids abit like that aswell? I seem to recall my daughter never wanting to be seen with me, grunting when I asked her about her day. But her friends mums oh they were wonderful, go off shopping with them tell them allsorts, while the said friends child was probably sat there silent and g...

Re: 13 Week Old Dog Acts Crazy on leash
At the positive training puppy classes I have been attending, there is a puppy who jumps up, very excited biting at lead, owners hands etc. The trainer drops the lead puts her foot onto it so he can`t jump up but isn`t been forced to lie on ground either, folds her arms turns away and completey igno...

Re: Do you think it is okay to tell a dog "no?"
I think it is fairly unrealistic never ever to say no to a dog, its a word that just automatically comes out when you see them reaching, for or doing something you would rather they didn`t. For example just the other day one of my dogs was about to go through a gap into a field, now that gap isn`t n...
