A positive update :) :)
Hello, dunno if you remember me but I'm the owner of Gelert a (now 24 week old) whippet puppy. I do still read the forum every day but haven't posted for a while but I had such a lovely experience this morning I wanted to share it. Basically it was time for Gel's 'weigh'n'worm' and I also had a litt...

Re: How you picked out your dog
Ohh love the baby rat thing :) Obviously Trixie wasn't witnessed when she ate the Santas but I have a mental image of her delicately nibbling the bottoms till the chocolate dropped out. She could be very gentle, another time she 'yoinked' an entire home made chocolate cake from the work top in the k...

Re: Separation Anxiety Dilemma
Loving the traffic cone idea, I may try this too for my semi-velcro puppy...as for the photograph, absolutely stunning. I'm lucky enough to live in a rural area (West Lancashire with views of Bowland) unfortunately I live in a teeny tiny run down rented council house, but it's fine, I may only just ...

Re: How you picked out your dog
I suffered a period of massive depression aged around 21 after graduating from Uni, I was so ill I was hospitalised for around 6 months and really needed something to get me back to the land of the living. I decided on a dog, so I'd HAVE to go out into the world everyday, though we 'd always had cat...

Oh how I've changed! (and learned)
This morning I was walking the children to school over a narrow canal bridge and saw 3 people with 3 small terriers on leads walking ahead. At the same time a mum with a young boy on a scooter was coming very fast towards the dogs, he narrowly missed the last dog, whose lead was being held by a preg...

Re: Teaching a polite greeting...any help?
Thanks Secret someone and Judy, Secret, I have tried him off lead a couple of times in an enclosed field and as yet his recall isn't trustworthy enough for him to be off lead on our every day walks, we walk mainly by a canal and I really do think he'd be chasing ducks and pushing smaller dogs into t...

Teaching a polite greeting...any help?
Hiya, We are generally getting on great. Gelert is wonderful mostly at loose leash walking after using Mattie's 'close' tips, he's settling down into a lovely confident and very tall whippety. I have a couple of issues I've trawled the threads for and can't find answers to...Gel will usually meet ot...

Re: Leash biting
I have had this with my pup. One remedy I found on the net (though haven't used personally as Gelert isn't that interested) is to give them something to carry in their mouth on walks...a tuggy rope or similar then they can't chew both toy and lead. Also, apparently they are less inclined to chew cha...

Re: Out of control dogs that rush my puppy
No advice but really feeling for you after what must have been a terrfiying experience for you and the puppy. We had a similar one two days ago when an over exuberant lab girl bounded up off lead (Gel was on lead as I haven't done enough recall with him yet to be safe) with the owner panting after h...

Re: Emergency vet trip last night :(
Thanks all :) the thoughts and prayers obviously worked. I have just got back from his thorough check up and the vet said as he's shown no signs of illness since and his poos, wees, general demeanour and eating habits have all been ok, he doesn't need the LFTs. She pronounced him a very very lucky p...

Re: Emergency vet trip last night :(
Thanks for the good wishes. Alfie (the brother) got to the vets five minutes after eating his so he doesn't have to have the LFTs. I am hopeful it was soon enough for Gel too but the prayers and thoughts are very very much welcome. xx
