Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
I don't come here very often anymore but I was shocked to see there has been virtually no new activity in quite awhile. I guess this forum is coming to an end if it hasn't already. :( Unfortunately, no new members have been activated since December. The smilies and BBCode have stopped working too :...

Re: Impulse control and age
Is it posible that her eyesight is deteriorating so she can't see the treats so well? I think any change in behaviour in old age warrants a health check, but that might not be possible right now.

Re: Terrible teens
Jasper was exactly the same. The bad news is that he'll occasionally have a bit of a grump at entire males, but it is now no more than that. He met a very bouncy playful 11-month-old husky cross the other day and had a Grrrr and put a paw on his back. I do think the paw is an 'I'm the boss round her...

Re: Forum bug - Invisible private message/s
I think this happens when someone sends you a PM, but then deletes it before you pick it up. It's annoying, because you always want to know what it said, but not fixable. I know someone on another forum who had a rant about a forum member to someone else, but they accidentally sent it to the person ...

Re: Excellent lurcher article
I haven't trained a saluki, but if training a collie is at the far left of the scale and training a lurcher is close to the far right, then a saluki is not just at the far right but has run off two miles further in that direction.... Imagining you're training a cat might be a good start. A sal...

Oh MPbandmum, I'm so sorry to hear about Sky, Sirius and Helen :( I do hope your fluffy Samoyed is helping with your grief. No idea what's going on with the forum software... as far as I can see, no new registrations have been activated since December so I don't think admin are paying it too much at...

Erica, what terrible news about Delta - I'm so sorry. He was far, far too young I'm glad you have your new pup to give you some comfort - he is beautiful.

Re: Overly amorous pup.......HELP!!
My experience is a little different to Nettle - I've found that entire dogs do tend to get attacked by other male dogs (neutered as well as entire) more, even (or maybe particularly) when the entire dog is very easygoing and submissive. This is certainly the case with my neutered dog, who reacts to ...

Re: An unpleasant incident
There's a few triggers here: a lot of male dogs really dislike unneutered males; dogs can be more reactive when they are on lead; dogs can be protective of their 'housemates' so both Berkeley and Bella could have been 'protecting' the other. Berkeley is beginning to feel the effects of his own testo...

Re: Clouds and Silver Linings
Many still let their dogs charge up to Jasper though, and I have to keep him on lead in the park to stop him charging up to treat fairies  Not that we've got that far in the last couple of days - OH is working from home and Jasper doesn't like going out and leaving one of us behind. Yesterday ...

Here's the thread Nettle mentioned for exercising a dog's mind: https://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1135 You might find some more useful links here: https://positively.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11503 My dog often generalises - he initially got treats whenever we passed dogs ...

Re: Anxious collie
I think you've given them good advice so far... I'm not sure about using 'leave it' with cars though - how would they train it, and what would it mean to him? It doesn't tell him what he should do, and it doesn't change how he feels about the cars. As far as the vet goes - is he muzzle trained? If n...

Re: dog JUST STARTED being aggressive
Be aware you cannot train a dog's feelings. You cannot, through training, make her less insecure and defensive. You can only adapt her environment. Though surely, by repeated exposure to a trigger but at a distance where she is 100% comfortable, and gradually reducing the distance, her feelings abo...

Re: dog JUST STARTED being aggressive
It migth be that when M arrived, she was a little shut down and is now coming out of her shell. However, as with any new unexplained behaviour, it would be worth getting her a full vet check-up to be on the safe side. Do you know if she's the same when it's just you and her, without S? If you can fi...
