Re: Update on VooDoo the Border Collie/Lab

Additionally, I forgot to update on what happened with her Dad leaving the house for work some time ago. She used to get so upset when even one of us left the house and Emmabeth suggested giving her a visual clue that he was leaving for work, like a traffic cone on the table, and removing it when he...

Update on VooDoo the Border Collie/Lab

I've never been a frequent poster here, but I just wanted to thank all of you for helping change our dogs life for the better. We all still have a long way to go but here are some of our awesome victories with our very reactive and fearful pooch: - We can now walk to the end of our court and back wi...

Re: Did anyone in the UK see this last night?

It's heartening to see such a trainer shut down. It makes me wonder if something similar is possible with "shiny tooth man" as I've heard him described here in the states. I have written the National Geographic Channel, and jacksdad mentioned talk of advertising dollars which seems very do...

Re: Listening to your dog...

My favorite way VooDoo communicates is a very annoyed huff/sigh when we're not in bed being perfectly quiet at the time she's deemed appropriate. To be fair, we do go to bed and are asleep at the exact same time most days, but if there's any sort of talking she sighs repeatedly until we take her cue...

Re: Seperation Anxiety

Good luck and hugs to you, you're working through a very tough issue. Trust me when I say I feel your pain! Our dog is not destructive when left alone, but I'm positive she would be if left home alone long enough. She can now be completely alone for up to three hours -- which just happens to be long...

Re: Advice Needed on Trust Building and Separation Anxiety

Thank you a hundred times over for your advice and suggestions. Also, full on collie weirdness is an apt description and helped me find a little humor in our situation. We have discussed the idea of talking to the vet about some sort of 'doggie prozac' after experimentation with rescue remedy ...

Re: How you picked out your dog

I had wanted a cat or dog my entire childhood but was never allowed because my sister and I are severely allergic to both. We had lizards and tarantulas -- that my mom was totally pleased with, I'm sure -- and a poor little hamster that had some bad luck but never anything we could really interact w...

Advice Needed on Trust Building and Separation Anxiety

We're experiencing a few setbacks. The pup of the family is incredibly bonded with my OH and not so much with me. If you'd like a bit of back story there's another post about us here . I am now her primary caregiver. While she has always suffered from separation anxiety, she has become intensely str...

Might sound silly, but recognising ANY success, any positive progress or improvement really does help you, and that in turn helps your dog!
Thanks, will do! You all have been a wonderful help.

Re: The Life and Times of VooDoo the Border Collie/Lab

That's great! So glad it's working out for you. :D So... I see you are in Northern Nevada! So am I-- actually, just across the Idaho state line (I can literally WALK my dogs into Idaho to go hunting!) So are you more over in the west side of the state? By Reno and there-abouts? 8) I am just outside...

Re: The Life and Times of VooDoo the Border Collie/Lab

Update! A few days ago I read really sound advice, I think from emmabeth (surprise), and a light bulb came on! Who knows where it was as I've been spending a lot of time reading here, particularly posts by jacksdad and Noobs as VooDoo is pretty scared of life in general when on a leash. Anyway, the ...

Re: The Life and Times of VooDoo the Border Collie/Lab

Now what I need to know is this: what is YOUR daily/weekly schedule, precisely? What time do you get home from work in the mornings; what time do you go to bed; what time do you wake up; what time must you begin getting ready for work, and what time do you leave? I may be able to offer some ideas f...

The Life and Times of VooDoo the Border Collie/Lab

First off, thank you, thank you, thank you for those of you who spend your time and knowledge to help people like me change our dogs lives. You're amazing! I have been putting off posting here because our dog doesn't have much of a schedule and I'm embarrassed. However, I've decided to post regardle...
