Re: Puppy Intussusception Question

That sounds horrible... But did it turn out the knot was somehow caused by the scar tissue, or were they two separate problems?

Also where did you get the puppy from? Was it a registered breeder, or was it a random person whose dog had puppies?

Re: How Much Protein Should A Puppy Have In Their Food?

Here's a good link I stumbled upon: http://www.boxerworld.com/forums/view_choosing-a-good-kibble-dry-dog-food.htm It talks about foods labelled as "large breed" and "puppy" near the bottom, and it suggests "Our advice would be to avoid the large breed and puppy formulations ...

Canidae Dog Food

Anyone have any experience with this dog food? http://www.canidae.com/dogs/all_life_stages/dry.html Dog Food Analysis gives it 5 stars (the best foods are 6 stars): http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php/product/2034 A local shop sells it for $52.99 for a 35lb bag, which is ...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?

I asked the breeder about those things, and she said that in 17 years and over 200 puppies, she's only had 1 case of epilepsy and 1 case of pancreatic insufficiency. Those are pretty good odds, no?

Re: New Puppy, Crates, Crying & Socializing

Okay, I was just making sure that the setup hasn't been disproved or anything, since the book is from 10 years ago and I know that advancements are constantly being made in dog training.

Re: New Puppy, Crates, Crying & Socializing

I just have a quick question, sorry to ask this in your thread, Suzette. A few pages down in both books and you can see the long-term confinement picture, which includes a doggy toilet in the corner. I have read that paper training isn't recommended since the dog will generalize that it's okay to go...

Re: Long Term Leave?

Okay, and when he's over there we video chat on Skype with him almost everyday. Would it help at all if the puppy saw him and heard his voice?

Long Term Leave?

Hello everyone, my family's decided to get a German Shepherd puppy but the breeder won't have any available until early October. The problem is that my dad works overseas and he's only here for about a week in Feb. and during the summer. My question is, will there be any issues getting the puppy to ...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?

As a matter of interest what are the health problems associated with GSD's apart from their hips, as I have never had any problems with any of mine (apart from Jake's problem which seems to have been caused by the laser lights), and they have all lived to be good age, apart from one, who we had to ...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?

Thanks for your help, friends! Liv, I heard about the show vs. work early in my research, and I didn't bother to contact the breeders that sold the show lines. I don't plan on doing any shows or competitions, MAYBE agility, but just for fun and exercise. I think the working-line straight backed dogs...

Re: Health of your dogs and where you got them?

I have been researching German Shepherds for a few weeks now, and so far I have found only one breeder that certifies hips and elbows, AND does genetic testing against the two most common ailments in GSDs, VWD and DM. Her pups also come with a 2 year health guarantee. Unfortunately this breeder won'...
