Frogs are okay-ish, toads very much not. Can cause a dramatic reaction, drooling, fits, that kind of stuff.

Assuming dead mice have not ingested poison from other sources (next door?) the worst they'll give your dog is parasites, especially worms.

Quite honestly, I think you should enjoy your status quo and not rock the boat. As Ocelot said, they are both very young and IMO you have a rocky trip ahead as they mature. Two bitches together isn't easy (I speak as someone who once had five) and adding a newbie of either sex IMO is not a good idea...

As someone with a fair knowledge of sighthound AND of racehorses, I wonder if Emmabeth's early post could be published (apologies if it has been and I haven't yet seen it - just got back from away) because what makes ME mad is the way the greyhound is 'marketed' as needing next to no care and traini...

Sorry, I haven't made myself clear. What I am trying to say is - what people term 'aggression' is not necessarily aggression per se, but a fear response in many cases. That a fear-bite hurts as much as an aggression-bite I do not dispute for one moment - but - is the dog biting because it is "a...

Does aggression exist?

Topic for discussion :D The more I study dogs and dog behaviour, and the more courses I go on and the more cases I attend, the more I feel that true aggression is very very rare, though it certainly does exist. I think it is almost always misunderstood fear (as mentioned in a 'methods' topic). Even ...

It's hard when you all love him and want him to be close-in family, but what this chap really needs is space. Hubby needs to back off, avoid eye contact, avoid touching or speaking to Murphy, and give Murphy time to come to him. However long it takes is how long it takes. Hard on all of you I know, ...

I think that one of the most underrated points to come out of all this is that different breeds/types have different mental capacities and reaction times. The hairtrigger response of (say) a border collie is never going to be replicated by (say) a mastiff.

Just to clarify the extent of re-training needed - by 'recently heightened chase instincts' do you mean he has tried to chase sheep, has chased them, has injured one/some or has killed one/some? And would this be once or more often?

Thanks.

This problem is common to all of us, Sheena, so don't feel alone :D I place myself between the offending dog and my dog - my dogs have learned to "get behind" when I tell them - and I make myself big and fierce (I'm normally small and fierce) and I fix the dog with big body language and ey...

Not my patch, Beverley - but there are bound to be behaviourists there who would help. Maybe start a database in the magazine?

Loads of dogs don't play with toys. None of mine do. It isn't the end of the world.

Enjoy the fact that they are happy to play with you and each other. Lack of interst in toys = no resource guarding.
