Re: Almost ready to get rid of puppy ............. sadly
JACKSDAD & SARAH83 & JO_SMITH ~~~ thank you soooooo much for your understanding about the rehoming. As negative statement about rehoming REALLY DO feel like shaming. I am 51 yrs old and have NEVER had a dog. I was bit in the face when young and have almost been frightened of them ever since....

Almost ready to get rid of puppy ............. sadly
lease, PLEASE be kind and gentle with your responses to this as I'm about at my wits end and it takes everything I have to not cry about this whole thing as it is. Jamie is just over 5 months old; we've had her since she was 2 months old. Thus, I've been trying to housetrain her for over 3 months an...

Housetraining ........ the saga !!!
Jamie is now just over four months old. We've had her for two months. She seems to be settling in pretty good; her elimination habits seem to be regulating; she's getting used to the routines; she's definitely learned 'sit' and 'lay down', we're working on others. But after two months of working on...

Re: TREAT Training ........
Ah-ha, Emmabeth, Pavlov's dog ..... that's what I thought. After quite awhile they'll do it just because they 'might' get a treat or because it's just plain become what they know to do. Thank you !!!

"When you are a little kid you do a chore you get a sticker or some candy or a 'Good Job!' or a few pennies right away." Lolol - maybe these days !!! I'm older and if you didn't do what you were told, when "I" was little, you got punished, maybe even spanked. If you 'did' do it y...

Re: stop barking
I've read more than one place, and on my puppies food bag that after 10-12 weeks the feeding should only be 2 times a day (the variance here might how much activity the dog gets.) Just my $.02

Okay, call me stupid perhaps.......
but I've never done this before !! I think this morning I might have realized a difference between 'let' Jamie out and 'take' Jamie out. I was letting her out; I'd take her out, hook her on her outside leash, and wait around (i.e. sit on the deck steps, etc.) until she'd go = let. And I couldn't qui...

Re: Housetraining continued.
Lololol, I agree, the bathtub is VERY convenient for cleaning !!! I 'hope' she gets it eventually. Just 'feels' like she isn't and 'I' feel like I'm doing nothing but dog all day and getting nothing else done. Not that that is necessarily bad either, for the dogs sake, except I have a family and hou...

TREAT Training ........
Okay, smart almost 4 month old pup here. I have questions about the treat training. I'm using it and she's picked up "sit, down (or lay down), wait, leave it; we're working on others. My question is; this works like a Pavlov's dog thing ?? For instance, "drop it". If she has a plush a...

Re: Housetraining continued.
Thanks guys. I'm an old lady :o( and this is my first dog. She's a real sweetie and I'd really like to make this work. And I realize, much to my chagrin, it's going to be up to me alone to make it work. And I know she's smart; she's already got 'sit', 'lay down' (or down), 'drop it', 'wait', and we'...

Housetraining continued.
But actually, since I'm just back from a 1 week vacation, I'm considering it starting all over again. Jamie is almost 4 ms old. She is gated in the mud room all night; she does not potty in the mud room. My hub lets her out when he gets up, she poops and pees, he's sweet on her, then she's put back ...

Feeding Puppy
Jamie is just over 3 months old. She's a dachshund/smooth fox terrier mix (basic mutt !!) I'm feeding her Purina Puppy Chow. But when I give her just that she sniffs and walks away so I've been adding it to maybe 2-3 tablespoons of a canned food. She's eating that pretty good. And I've learned that ...
