B&R was a business that was inspired by my relationship with my first dog, Justus (as in just us). He was a Chihuahua, adopted from the Humane Society in Gulfport, Mississippi. When he was returned again to the shelter after having been adopted once before, he found his forever home with me and it was a relationship like no other! Through my experience in training and caring for him, I was inspired to help other pet parents make a life long, close bond with their dog as I had with Justus. I wanted to be a driving force in facilitating this type of love between the human and the dog. Oftentimes this bond becomes eroded because of the many instances of miscommunication between human and dog - I call it the gap. I am helping to bridge that gap through positive reinforcement training in the Seattle area.
B&R's philosophy on animal care and training is based on the core belief that all dogs deserve to be treated humanely with respect, dignity, attention, compassion, understanding, and affection. I believe in utilizing science-based, positive reinforcement, and force-free techniques with all my clients. My training has been described by my clients as a “gentler approach.” I do not subscribe to dominance or "alpha of the pack" theory. It was based on a flawed study and has been disproven to be an effective way to train and interact with the companion dog. I believe the use of aversive equipments such as e-collars, choke, spray, and prong collars on animals are inhumane, but I also understand that oftentimes pet parents struggle with control and handling of their dog. I would love to work with you on finding a more humane option to handle your dog and show you all the benefits of positive reinforcement training, including but not limited to a happier dog!
My training focuses are: separation anxiety, basic obedience, resource guarding, reactivity, fearfulness, socialization, puppy training. I mainly offer private coaching and training, so I come to you! I also offer a virtual class on new pet parent guardianship call the New Pet Parent Class (NPPC) where we discuss the challenges and expectations of adopting a new dog. Although my training is not breed specific, I currently work with a greyhound rescue in Woodinville, WA and am well-versed on the training and guardianship of an ex-racer.
