A fallen police K-9 in Oregon was honored with a beautiful send-off from members of the police force, fire department, and other K-9 handlers and their four-legged partners.
K-9 Mick suffered a fatal gunshot wound as he helped his handler, Officer Jeff Dorn of the Portland Police Department, arrest an armed robbery suspect. There was a shootout between the suspect and the officers, and Officer Dorn told fellow officers that Mick took a bullet that undoubtedly saved his life. Dorn took a gunshot to each leg in the shooting and is now recovering.
As officers brought K-9 Mick's body from the scene of the shooting to the veterinarian's office, an incredible scene unfolded.
A steady progression of fire trucks and police cars began to follow the car holding K-9 Mick's body, beginning a beautiful impromptu procession honoring their fallen K-9 partner.
These dogs do an incredible job keeping our streets safe and protecting the law enforcement officers around them, and it's thanks to K-9 Mick that Officer Dorn is alive today. In almost a year of filming and working closely with law enforcement, I have yet to meet a police K-9 that didn't love his or her job, and I'm sure that this incredible dog will be forever honored for his sacrifice.
