When a two-legged chihuahua was surrendered to a veterinary practice in Indianapolis, Indiana, the staff wasn't sure if he would ever be able to live a normal life.
The tiny pup was born without his two front legs and was having trouble keeping up with his littermates to get food. He weighed just 10 ounces at 4 weeks old. His owners, distraught about his wellness and ability to survive, agreed to sign the puppy over to the veterinary staff at The Downtown Veterinarian so that he could get the round-the-clock care he needed.
He was named "Turbo" and quickly began to gain weight and eat more regularly. Dogs have to be at least 6 months old before being fitted to a cart, so the staff assembled a makeshift cart using parts from a Fisher-Price toy. His current cart is also made of toy parts, but he will soon outgrow it and need a specially designed cart. The clinic is now raising money for Turbo's cart.
Turbo is being adopted by veterinary technician Ashley Looper and is getting the physical therapy and veterinary care he needs to live a full, healthy life.
