A tiny Chihuahua caused a huge traffic jam on a busy California freeway.
The terrified dog darted in and out of traffic and finally perched itself on the highway's concrete median, where a California Highway Patrol officer coaxed her towards him with a protein bar.
The officer was able to keep the dog calm and safe until Contra Costa Animal Services Officer Andrew Tara was able to arrive to get her safely transported to the shelter.
The shelter was flooded with calls about the dog and she had offers from adopters and rescue groups willing to take her in, but this lucky dog was able to be reunited with her family.
A man and his two young daughters came forward to claim their missing dog, whose real name is "Charm." They say she bolted from their backyard and they had been searching for her ever since.
The shelter says they were able to educate Charm's family "about pet licensing, microchipping, spaying, good fencing, and the power of social media!"
Fortunately, this little escape artist got a happy ending. There are endless amounts of dogs just like her waiting for a home in shelters and rescue groups. Check out your local shelter and save a life like Charm's.
